Talking Best place for newbie off-road riding in N. GA?

Hey guys, just picked up a KLR and wanting to do a little light off-road riding.
This would be my first time going off-road, so nothing technical, maybe some Forest service roads or something. I live in Atlanta, so if you have any suggestions please let me know. Thanks!

Congrats on the new bike!
There are many miles of great riding North of you. Most of my riding is in the Northeastern part of the state but I have ridden/camped/fished over in the Blue Ridge area that is straight North of Atlanta. Pretty much anywhere across that part of the state is fun. If you don't have a metal skidplate and protection for the bodywork you might want to get some. You can still do plenty of riding that isn't too technical but it's easy do break things having fun. If you like to camp there are tons of primitive campsites and many of the streams have trout if you like to fish. If you like water crossings there are several in that part of the state.

Along with some good places to ride, there are several places with nice scenery.

Wow, that looks awesome. Can you give me specific locations or directions to a place like that?

BPR, I'm in between Woodstock and Acworth. Soon the kids will be going back to school, so hopefully I can get some riding time in. I'd actually like to do an overnight trip maybe up near Cohutta or Tellico soon... Do some riding, camp out and ride some more over a weekend. Next weekend is the last hurrah for summer vacation but after that I'm going to be looking to get out some. My KLR has pretty much sat since Tour de Tellico earlier this year... I really need to run up to Tellico Outfitters and spend my gift cert I won at TdT. Maybe I'll plan a ride/camp/shop/ride.

Check out the thread I just posted about the 7th annual Bat Out of Helen ride coming up the first of October.

2-3 days of camping and riding, some moderately technical trails, but I'll provide a bypass for any sections that are questionable.

Lot's of great 2 lane paved and dirt roads. Great folks, great times!
