If you have been wanting to get back over to this area, this is a great time! I like getting away from the hot days back home and enjoying 15 degree cooler temps in these mountains!

Example.....forecast for Friday of trip: Cleveland, TN-96, Waynesville, NC-86, Cruso and surrounding mountain riding - mid 70s to low 80s!

Another great kickoff to Summer with the Blue Ridge Run! Now it's time to stay cool for a few months and kick things back off again in the Fall at TDP X!

Thanks to Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground for the beautiful grounds that we could lay our heads for a short while! It's always good getting back to such a classic campground!

My trip lasted from Thursday morning to when I got home on Saturday night. It was a great escape from the heat I knew back home was getting. I really enjoy coming during this time of year!

Thursday

I got to camp Thursday around 10am......set up camp......then EnglishFred and I took a little stroll along the BRP going south. We stop in for some BBQ at Butt's on the Creek (the fried corn on the cob was good)! Later that evening, Joe and eventually the Yanks (Glenn and Brian) came rolling into camp!

Friday

I talked to a couple guys by the fire on Thursday night and learned that Romney Cycles in West Virginia is the place to buy, since they deal in volume. The '14 brand new leftover 1K VeeStrom was purchased for $8950! That is a heck of a deal!

Our route for the day was to take the BRP north to the Mount Mitchell area and ride all the FS and twisty roads in the area, then make our way back on the BRP to stay away from the lower elevation heat...........well, it was a blast and a success! We started out with 9 for the day.....but soon settled in with 6 for the duration. Ridir Frith started on his was from Hendersonville, but a flat a mile into his journey put him back at the house doing chores so he could ride on Saturday! We got back to camp around 6pm.... a few minutes before a hard rain came..... and we enjoyed having some great Beef Brisket and/or Chicken Pot Pie at camp with a drop in by Yellow Jacket!!

Saturday

I broke camp this morning so wherever I was around 4pm on Mike's Tour, I could just start making my way back to Cleveland, TN! It was good to get to ride some FS and twisty roads I either had ridden before, never ridden, or can't remember if I had ridden! Another great BBQ lunch, this time at Hawg Wild in Piscah Forrest (Brevard) made for some bull shooting time! It rained some while we were eating....and again as we were saddling up....but not even a 1/4 mile back to the FS roads, the rain stopped.....never to be seen again for the day!

After splitting from the group around 4:30, I stopped at Caney Fork store to eat some cold watermelon like we did last year! It was hard to believe how comfortable it was......I sat back in a rocking chair and never took my jacket off and ate a half a Sweet Baby watermelon (gave the other half to a kid). They have really done some work on the place since last year......nearly finished with an addition......making a larger parking area......and offering 93 Octaine Pure Gas!

On my way home, I was wanting to check out a route I had not been on before that includes supposedly a good bit of FS dirt. As I was about a half mile after the road turned dirt, I broke my clutch cable! Thursday morning, as I rode by the dealership near Waynesville, I told myself I should have stopped and gotten a cable........but I didn't! So.....I will be purchasing 2 cables soon and zip tying the spare beside the one being used. Well.....I am somewhat used to riding without a clutch, so I limped my way home. Very little traffic helped out a bunch! I took a slightly longer route once I got closed to home to avoid poor views from stop signs, but I got in fine. So.....the moral of the story......get a spare cable (I do keep one for the KLX when I ride it, but that didn't help).....or learn how to drive without a clutch!

Again..........it was great seeing you guys again! Glenn and Brian........I am so glad you guys made the journey from Connecticut! Look forward to seeing you again! See everyone in the Fall...........have a great Summer!

Keep Loving Rides!
