Help!! Doohickey Install in Upstate, SC

I recently purchased a KLR and the previous owner indicated that the doohickey was replaced. For peace of mind I need someone to verify and replace if necessary. I am not confident in doing the job myself. Can anyone recommend someone? Thank you.

How close are you to "Damocles"? May he can help or refer you to his favorite mechanic.

If he said he used a torsion spring, you can check easily for your self. No need to remove the rotor.

Drain the oil or lay the bike over about 45 degrees.
Remove the shift lever. One bolt. I put a scratch mark across the lever and shaft to make realignment easier.
Remove about 9 little bolts around the outer cover and slide it out and off.
You can then see if a torsion spring hook is on the left end of the doohickey.
Then put everything back the way it came off.

It is good to have a new outer gasket in case the original tears.
Also, good to order a Clymer service manual for all future needs.
justjeff likes this.
