So.......the middle of February, after 9 weeks of recovering from foot surgery (3 extra weeks of monitoring longer than normal swelling), I finally get released from the doc. To celebrate, a few of us Clevelanders get together the following Sunday for an afternoon ride. My mild riding bud got sick, and the rest of the gang was on the small bikes to ride the local aggressive terrain.....so.....it didn't take much to get me on the KLX! The foot did great! Felt super standing on the pegs....riding the tough trails....dodging the ruts....jumping the logs....you know.....good times rolling!
The gang having FUN!
OK.....enough of the happy, fun loving afternoon. Near the end of the day, I was riding a very easy double track, when I came across a small tree lying flat on the ground. As I was going over the small end, I must have been letting my foot dangle off the peg some, because I sandwiched my baby toe between a broken branch and the foot peg. As soon as it happened, I knew there was a chance I broke something. Well....an hour or so later....I have my foot up trying to get the swelling down.
Frankly......I didn't want to go back to the doc......but I watched the foot closely, and was walking on it pretty well....so I didn't go see him. It wasn't until 4 weeks later that I was having some discomfort in my surgery toe, that I visited the doc. While looking at the X-Rays, I asked him to check my small toe.....all looked good until the last X-Ray....and sure enough, it was broken. The doc said it looks just like what they do to a baby toe when they fix a Tailor's Bunion. So....I guess I found a KLR (poor man's) bunionette fix...HA!
Well.....I have been taking it easy since the boo boo.....gotta get ready to kick off the 2017 rallies at Roads & Trails!! Hopefully all will be good with the foot. I will keep you updated.
See you guys soon!!
