Cherokee Chuck has always seemed to keep the members over here fairly well informed of the 'Happenings' in your neck of the woods. And probably on several other sites.
It can be kind of cool to use the forum jump to go to "Whos On-Line" and see how many members are 'private messaging' and who is reading 'what'!
So I recon that I / we will see you over here a little more often, eh.
ENCODE any reference to this website on .net; otherwise . . . the URL will be XXXXXXed out, and . . . you may be banned from .net . . . or restricted there, as pdwestman is!
Conjecture: Advertising managers from the motorcycle industry realize .net is not an effective medium, and cancelled their accounts. Thus, the transfer to "subscription" status, in hopes of replacing the now-lost advertising money.
I’ve had my KLR a few years now. I’ve never experienced any reason to look anywhere outside this forum for information. In fact, the only reason I went to .net only recently was because of this topic lol.
Those 2 girls in that forum intro over there just crack me up. That is sooooo dumb! And the color combinations...ouch they hurt to look at!

Have to agree with you. When the subscription thing was mentioned I went over to .net to check it out. Don't really use the site much. First thing I was greeted with was the video intro on the homepage. Wow, super cheesy. Kinda gave me a chuckle.
I noticed an ongoing Donation thread that at the time had reached 22% of it's yearly goal. The site has always been or attempted to be a revenue stream for the owner. Fine by me, he can do what he want's, it is his site after all. What I think he is missing is the fact that there are numerous (FREE) resources on the Internet that will address just about anything KLR. The KLR isn't exactly rocket science and it's issues are relatively generic. Since Kawasaki discontinued the model it's just a matter of time when the forum traffic is limited to a group of enthusiasts who are keeping the KLR alive.
In reality to keep a forum open for business, Only the host needs to be paid. A reliable and reasonably fast host can be had for under $20 a month. I've tried many hosts, I now have my Oldwing forum on a $14.99 a month server and it's plenty fast and reliable.
.net is being extremely greedy IMO.
Once anyone has the slightest interaction with the owner of .net, they leave. There's all kinds of places on the internet to get abused that are free. Who's going to pay for that? I've been ".net free" for years and managed just fine. I wouldn't go back if they paid me.
If anybody feels it would help, I would be willing to don a sports-kini, pierce my navel and create an introductory video for this site. I stand ready.
since I'm new i will ask.
is their a riff between net and com?
i hang on both and really don't get involved in politics. i did buy the lifetime membership. inquiring minds want to know🤔
Try to post this website's URL in a post you put up on .net; see what happens! <img src="http://www.klrforum.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Smile" class="inlineimg" />
I read a suspension posting by one of .net primary moderators just a few minutes ago. A former suspension advertisers name was dropped. The moderator had to re-edit.
It is kind of sad that many of we humans will pay for a premium daily coffee or a bag of chips to watch television in the evening or a sporting event ticket even a couple of times a year, but are reluctant to pay for something that many of us have taken for granted. Free or nearly free information, myself included.
But Glenn may be pricing himself completely out of the market. $8.99 for the first introductory month will probably severely limit his new memberships.
I paid for 2 years membership here when I first got my KLR because I wanted to learn about the bike and use the information. I’ve gotten what I need.
The membership price here is very fair. I also have my own motorcycle forum so I know what it’s like with only a very small number of members paying their share.
I try to pay mine.
I'm wondering if the new .net subscription policy will terminate the 'read only for free' that I have enjoyed since my posting privileges were "Revoked"?
According to the fella what runs the place, yes. A subscription will be required to read stuff. He did say that he might institute a free trial period, though.
If you go to the top of this page and look in the upper right-hand area you should see "User CP". That stands for User Control Panel. Click on that and go to your control panel.
On that page, in the upper left-hand area, you should see a link called "Paid Subscriptions". If you click on that you will see that you can purchase a one year membership for $15 or a lifetime membership for $40.
There is a grocery list of the fantastic benefits of paid membership. I would be remiss if I were not to point out what an incredible bargain the $40 lifetime membership is in the current marketplace. This low, low membership price is, currently, only 19.48842874543239951278928136419% of the lifetime subscription fee of our nearest competitor. And, note that the competitor is offering a subscription, not a genuine membership!!! That is a significant difference, though the difference is unclear to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Though the lifetime membership here has been $40 since dirt was new, that low, low, super-low fantastic bargain price cannot be guaranteed to last forever!!!!!!!@#$%^&*!!!!!
Act now, Damocles, secure your future!
But wait! If you act now I, personally (well, really, how else would I do it? Virtually? By proxy?), will promise not to add an embarrassing avatar picture to your profile. I can make this generous offer because I wouldn't do it anyway...
So, yes! Hurry! Act now! Operators are not standing by!
I will say that over the years, I never had anything go seriously wrong with my KLR while I had it and I'm not really one to tinker or modify, so I never really gained a whole lot from the wealth of technical support that is provided by members of this site. I do particularly recall y'all being of great assistance in helping me comprehend/accomplish KLR valve adjustments and a few other minor matters that I might have never figured out on my own and I do appreciate that.
I dropped the shekels on the Lifetime Membership here a few years back because I thought this site was superior to "glenn.net" and wanted it to succeed and stick around. Sites like this aren't just about the nuts, bolts and specs. In general, the folks on this site are a lot more laid-back, interesting and funnier than most I've encountered on glenn.net."
I don't even ride a KLR anymore but I still hang around here because of the people. The "Stromtrooper" site (apparently generated by the same motorcycle magazine conglomerate as klr.forum: identical look/layout as a lot of other motorcycle forums) isn't quite as bad as glenn.net but is still full of overbearing moderators and a lot of people who take themselves way too seriously.
Appreciate the members and the mods you have on this site!
"The motorcycle itself doesn't really matter: just the person riding it."
Same here. I've been off a KLR and on a Versys 1000 for almost three years. I also still hang around here from time to time. It's a nice place. Another reason is I thought I might buy another KLR as a second bike when they "redesigned" it someday but that dream died when they discontinued it. It seemed reasonable that Kawasaki would someday stick the Versys 650 engine in the KLR and add a few more bells. I've ridden the 650 and I feel it's a little (just a little) weak on the street but it would be a killer engine in a KLR type bike. There's still hope I guess.
