Looking forward to another Blue Ridge Run! I moved it up to the first weekend of June (it took the weekend of Sequatchie Valley days when it moved to March). We will be back at BRMC, so make sure and get your cabins reserved! Temps are normally 10-15 degrees cooler in the Cruso area, compared to temps back home. That puts us normally with a high around 75-80. Our host of the area each year has been mdrake, but he unfortunately is out with a boo boo. Don't worry...we will still have plenty of folks familiar with the area! Everyone come out for some great FS roads, Twisty pavement, and great Scenery!

Who: Anyone wanting world class Adventure and Dual Sport riding!
What: Blue Ridge Run
Where:Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground in Cruso,NC
When: June 5-7 (Early Bird -4th)
Why: Because we are about as far east as the mountains go!

* Due to Covid, several of the FS roads may be closed.....but hopefully we will find plenty open.

I'm out!

You already have me on that list but I probably can't make it. I got no good reason for skipping. The only thing that is on my calendar for that weekend is perpetual adoration of my wonderful wife of 20 years. 20 years that weekend to be more exact.

At least that's how it is worded on the family calendar.

I live just outside the Nags Head NC. Is this ride for locals only? His many days and is there a fee? Thanks. I been wanting to cruise the hills but never wanted to do that alone in case something happened.
Thanks
PJ PS, I don't have a F.B. account. Any of them on instagram?

C'mon up.

Hello Mr. Grean... to quote myself...

Replace the Tellico references with whatever area we are riding and Whitt Road with Hurricane Creek...
No fees, no signing up. The headcount mostly helps the owner to know how many to expect so he can plan his evening meals and such.
In short, this is a fine time for you to come ride with the group in Western NC.

I know nothing of this FB and Instagram you speak of. ;)

"In case there are others with a similar question I will try to fill in as much of the blanks as I can...

The folks in the SE area, primarily Chuck, have been gathering in Tellico Plains for the last 12 or so years to do this ride. It really is a causal gathering of riders who want to hang out together. Most folks show up at the campground on Friday. In the morning if they can or evening if the have to work. Some will show up on Thursday for an Early Bird scouting type ride and others on Saturday. There isn't any fee or sign ups or anything like that. You show up and hang out. Folks will gather around and drink coffee, eat some food and talk. As you get to know the people, remember to ask the age old question, "What y'all gonna ride today?" There will be a group going to look for an OHV area or single track trails but most groups are looking for gravel roads and some easy/moderate trail riding. There are even groups that will be 100% asphalt all day. Your job is to interview as many riders as you can to determine which group you fit best into. We are a good group of folks who are ready to help anyone successfully climb a hill and once they get a pic, will help you pick up your bike. And remember most any ride will include some crossing water (Whitt Rd)

I'd say that if you are able to make it, come on up. If there are cabins left, you can get one of those and travel light, there is a lot of open area to throw out a tent, there are maybe 4 decent places to hang a hammock and they allow you to pull your vehicle down in the field if you want to camp out of it.

Worst case, you get to hang out with some folks and you decide you want to go out and explore on your own pace and pick your own roads.

Chuck has developed a scale of rideability. (lots of jokes about it) Roughly it is like this:
1 - easy roads, anybody can do them maintained gravel.
2 - a bit more rough but totally doable. less maintained, usually dead end type of roads that aren't traveled much
3 - rougher, not much maintenance if any. looser gravel and some rocks.
4 - rougher more and uphill/downhill with looser rocks. untravelled by most vehicles; single track but still doable on a KLR with a skilled rider
5 - single track, large rocks, steep inclines, probably shouldnt be done on a KLR
(this is where chuck gets the ribbing - he is quite skilled on a KLR - his 3's are mere mortal's 5's)"

Steve....I got it on good authority that Ridir and Super are both coming! Sorry I moved this ride to a weekend that had such importance to you. We can't have a ride leader not able to be there....so....next year we will move it a week away.

Mean....we of course would enjoy having you come over to ride some great FS roads! We just hope most of them are open by our weekend.

Verboten1.....I think you would thoroughly enjoy this ride! It is perfect for a KLR....but since yours is for sale, your Super10 would do quite well.

Hey, Chuck,
At this point in time I am planning on coming up late Thursday night or very early Friday morning so I can make whatever ride happens on Friday (Time??).
Just to remind you who I am, My name is Scott, I ride the black DrySpec KLR, I am Steve's friend that rode with the group at Two Wheels a few weeks back.
Looking forward to getting some more awesome rides in with you guys.

I'm going throw in 2 cents here: May I ask , on behalf of all us folks who are saying home, that you wear masks and social distance during your ride?

Also please remember that any injury that requires you to go to an ER could expose you to a deadly virus. Therefore, ride conservatively. Don't break your thumb.

I really understand wanting to go. The wife and I have been out on a few rides that were just the two of us. Just be safe! If not for yourself, for others.

Scott and I ran up through that area last weekend. Just an FYI on some 'things' we saw.

BRMC is still there and ready to go. I saw Phil the owner but didn't talk to him.
El Pobre - The mexican place a few miles towards Waynesville has closed permanently.
Jukebox Junction - grille at the 215/276 intersection is still there but their sign says 'Closed Til Further Notice'

There are several roads still closed but some are open.
The look that goes by the Horse Stables just north of Brevard off 276 is open.
Headwater Road, down to the hatchery was open but we didn't run it; don't know what the other end looks like.
All these closed til further notice
Yellow Gap
Lickstone Road
Courthouse Creek
Pilot Mountain
Powhattan Access
Yellow Gap Rd
Wash Creek Rd

This area almost always has a chance for thunderstorms in June, but these percentages are a little higher than we have had before. You never know what will happen after a few more days pass by.

Thanks for doing the recon work, Steve! I was hoping that several FS roads would be open by June.

We have always had this ride on the 3rd weekend of June.....I just moved it up to this weekend since Sequatchie Valley Days got moved to March. I am not opposed to postponing the ride and moving it back to it's original weekend (June 19-21).....so we can see:

1. If more FS roads open up
2. The weather potentially gets better.
3 And of course, one of our leaders actually ride instead of celebrating he and his wife's 20th anniversary.

Of course....those that had plans to come may not like this option. I have most folk's phone numbers, but I don't for a few of you guys that have signed up for the ride. Please let me know your thoughts on waiting until June 19. I will contact everyone that I have numbers for. We can decide by tomorrow morning.

Thanks!

Thanks John....you are right. Sometimes Father's day coincides with this ride. One year I did a Thurs-Sat ride....and headed out Saturday afternoon.

Most folks have replied via text that they are fine with postponing....but they are fine with this weekend as well.

After all these years of planning.....we have never backed out of a ride due to weather. It was Steve's recon of all the roads still closed that made me reconsider. Of course, the state could be opening some up now that it is June. I need to do better research on that.....

If you can believe it, in the past 15 years, we have never postponed rides before for weather.

Steve's recon.....the fact that we have a small group planning to come.... and the phasing in of FS roads, has given me hope that moving back to our regular weekend could possibly be a good move ....this year.

I have heard from many of you guys via text, that moving the ride back to it's regular weekend (3rd weekend of June) is a good move! I have made contact (message only) with BRMC and told them we are pushing the ride back a couple of weeks in hopes that more FS roads will be open by then.....the weather potentially comes out better.....and of course, our fearless leader, Steve, can now attend! I will start a new thread with the new dates.

Also.....we have decided to move Sequatchie Valley Days back to it's original weekend...THIS WEEKEND.....so folks can still get in some riding! The weather is also looking better in Sequatchie, TN. It was stopped back in March by Covid19. I will get this thread started as well.

Thank you for all your feedback! I hope the move works out well for everyone!
