Wink Newbie Ride 5/31/10

Giving you all fair warning! I plan on riding the FS roads up to and around Suches leaving from Woodstock.

You might want to be as far away as possible!

Ride moved to Saturday with Monday as back up day.

Don

warning received my friend, have fun..

You start with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience. Hopefully you fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

Made it!

My schedule got changed, had to ride Saturday...Out at 8:00, back in the garage at 6:30.

I rode the back way to Nimblewill Church and 52 and then 28-1, 77, 42 to Cooper Creek to TWO for lunch. Rode up to Rock Creek/Fish Hatchery Road and came across Andre and Jim.

They have a little story to tell....I tagged along and we ran down 42 to Doublehead Gap then over to Aska to Stanley Creek and across to Ellijay where they loaded up and headed home.

I meandered back to Smyrna.

All told 260 miles, about 100 or more on dirt!

A great day!

Andre and Jim thanks for letting me join you!

I am really enjoying the KLR!

Rode again on Monday....

...this time I encountered MUD. Georgia red clay mud. Wow what an expirence!

I dropped the bike in two mud holes....then turned around and went thru them again. This time I made it thru both!

Yes I am stubborn....

Out again...

on Saturday this time not as long but more diffficult terrian.

70 miles or so some decent grades with ruts and loose rock. Also some water crossings.

Starting to feel more comfortable on the KLR.

SloDon -
I noticed you mentioned Coopers Creek and I have visited and fished there several times. It's about 8 miles in from Mulky Gap on the gravel forest road right?? I go there a few times a year and stay minutes from the Mulky Gap entrance. I recently purchased my 09 red specifically for that forest road. Unfortunately I live in South FL and can't wait to take my KLR with me on my next visit to GA. Maybe we can get a group ride in the future.

Unfortunately I probably won't be there for a few months. I normally take a trip in October, but I'm not sure if that will be the next time.

Plus, my bike is new and I'm restricting myself through the break in period. By October, I should have over 1,000 miles on it and maybe then I can get up there. I am a new rider, but would definitely be up for it!! - Justin
