CA North Bay Rayhouse Rd

Went on an impromptu ride yesterday to explore up thataway, since I'd never been. Getting a late start, I only had time to peek around Knoxville and Rieff Rd.

The first white gate was open. (If it were closed, there'd be no effin way I could get my KLR around it. It looks like some people have taken dirt bikes around it, but it involves riding a 45+ slope over a upside-down U a good 5' high. Clearly, bikes are not encouraged to go around it.) EDIT: it looks like this is the gate at the Lake Co line, looking at the map later.

There's a sign next to it that reads:

Yolo County has closed Rieff/Rayhouse Road at the Lake
County line and Yolo County Road 40 at Highway 16 to all
vehicle traffic.

For more information,

Contact Yolo County Public Works Division at (530) 666-

Due to time constraints I didn't continue on.

What's the road look like from the Highway 16 end?

After the gate heading to hwy16 the road gets rougher with deep ruts and lost of loose rocks. You also might run into hikers or people dropping in at the river. The gate at hwy 16 is a walk around gate that you can fit bikes through. Some of the hikers and boaters give you dirty/quizzical looks.

I'll have to try to buzz up there and take a look. I've been over that road a few times, and they do close that gate in the winter.
What puzzles me, is that there are BLM Federal campgrounds back in there that are more or less abandoned since they closed the bridge at Hwy 16. So how can County Roads close roads to Federal land? And the locals hunt up there a lot, so they open that up for them too.
If you go north at the four way intersection of dirt roads, 3852'40.94"N, 12219'39.79"W, you go into "Buck Island" where there is a campsite, some tables, and some pit toilets.
