2001 Supermoto Build Help !!!!

This is my first time building a super moto, i have customised a couple cruisers and sports bikes so this is new to me.

What i would like to know:

where can i get a reasonible priced 17" front rim ? ive seen some for around $800 etc but thats a little too much. will one from say a DRZ or something fit on with some minor modifications.

ive noticed people switching out and customising the rear feneder, I intend on taking one from a newer KX and putting it on, What fender are you guys using ?

finally What KX parts like sporkets, bars platsics etx will fit with a 2001 KLR ??

you might laugh thinking im a idiot for not knowing but this is new.

Welcome to the forum!

Are you looking for a complete wheel? RAD mfg. sells one with their machined hub not cheap though.

Buchanan sells rims and spokes so you could re-lace the front hub. They will build the wheel also.

Rear Rim on front ?

Can I use a klr rear rim, purchase the correct spokes and lace the front hub to it ??? I can get a 17" klr rear rim for less than $100

I would think that a rear rim would be too wide for a front tire.

Not true. I built a 17" front wheel based on a KLR650 rear rim laced to a KLR600 front hub. Pic shown with a 120/90/17 tire mounted. Rim is 2.50" wide by 17" diameter. With a trued rim this set-up leaves about 3/8" clearance between each side of the tire and the forks. Buchanan Spokes or Procycle.us can help. Aside from the somewhat neat look, I can't imagine why someone would want to motard a KLR650. A $700 pocket bike would whip the KLR's ass on a motard course. I just built the wheel because I could.

the reason i was thinking of doing this myself was to keep tire spares down to a minimum one tire,2 tubes would cover both wheels for the trip back home to Alaska this summer .

how does yours handle with the 17 inch wheel on the road ? or fire roads ?

All you need is one spare tube if you are really parro .. and a patch kit .
new tires and HD tubes before you leave for your trip . I just did Toronto to alaska in june and didnt even take a spare tube , just a patch kit .
