Hello fellow Great Lakes riders, over on .NET a group of riders are trying to get a spring ride organized.

I figured I'd post over here and see if there is any of you interested. It seems to be OK on this site to do that.... if not Mods please delete with my apologies.:ashamed0001:

Anyway, back to the ride.

When: We are in the very early planning stages and a date isnt set although it appears that late May early June is what 's being talked about.

Route: Around Lake Erie, Finger lakes region of NY, any other area of interest. For me the ride would start/stop in the Detroit area, but riders would be welcome to join up/split off as they see fit.

If theres interest we can get into it further.......So, what do you say?

Stuff like this isn't only allowed, it's encouraged!!!:)

Unfortunately, if you had set this up here and then posted it on .net, Glenn would have already banned you.:character00268:

Sounds like a great time! Unfortunately, it's being set up on the wrong side of Lake Michigan for my use.

If some of those yahoos plan something in the IL/WI/MN/IA area, please let us know!!

It all depends on your view point, I guess. It strikes me a lot like bringing your dog over to the clubhouse and letting him dump on the lawn. I spend a lot of time and effort taking care of this lawn. I'm kinda proud of this lawn.

Make what you like of that, but lets consider that when my dogs go over to the '.net lawn, they get shot and killed on sight.

Out there in the real world, when The Bandito's throw a party, the Prospects over at the Hells Angels might not want to run back into the clubhouse jumping up and down like a puppy, wanting the patched members to go over to the Bandito's and join in. No. Not a good career building move. That may draw some undesirable attention. 'Specially if any patched members have bad history with any of the Banditos.

Not sure I get the dumping on the lawn analogy....but since it's my party I guess it's an OK "career move"

All are welcome to tag along, regardless of what clubhouse they prefer.

If that ruffles someones feathers (not my intention BTW).....well, that is just sad. I just want to ride my bike and its fun to have some like minded people along to share the good times! The more the merrier!

lets forget the BS and go riding!

Wow! There sure is a conflict in responses between the Uber Bacon Moderator and the Banjo Pickin' Moderator. I thought that this site was open to all and free of the pissing matches that you see on the other sites. Must say that I'm surprised by your response vatrader. Not sure how the "Out there in the real world" paragraph had anything to do with it either. Find someone to give you a hug or something.

Sngltrk, from me, thanks for the invite and you're right... lets forget the BS and go riding... when it warms up!

I'd be interested in a ride like that. I'm also in S.E. Michigan, in northern Oakland County. I was thinking about taking a trip to the Finger Lakes region, anyway. It'd be more fun with some other riders. Keep me informed. S
end me a PM, or respond on here.
Thanks,
Arnie

It's because I had bacon today, and he had someone tell him to squeal!!:)

Actually, I think it's because VA had a different experience at .net..

I unloaded on Glenn and told him I didn't like his tactics and that some of his moderators should be arrested, rather than banned.. In return, he tried to make me a moderator. I told him I wasn't interested and haven't been back since.

Those that were banned for really BS reasons have a much more bad taste in their mouths than I do.. I chose to leave, and I don't even consider the site if I need KLR info that I can't find here. Instead, I go to ADV and hit up a couple guys there that I know I can trust. In my world, .net doesn't exist and it'll remain that way because I chose to leave.

I think VA doesn't think of that site like I do.. I respect his thoughts on the matter..:)

My only suggestion is that next time, don't mention that it was brought up on .net. There's a lot of people here that aren't happy with ol' Glenn. It might be best not to advertise for him over here.:character00271:

My annual biketrip this last summer was to the Fingers from Lake Michigan 60 mi E of Chicago (thank the Lord).

We did a sort-of figure 8 around the first and last two lakes and it was excactly where KLR's shine!
Total blast on hardpack gravel twisties with some insane hills
on some of the turnoffs. One of our guys, all from this site, hadda gps with I think topographical
features shown would say "Thataway fellas" and off we went. Once crossing farmland for a full country block! (one mile)
This will be a highlight on anyone's klr roadtrip! Camping and rooms abound. Food, bars, churches, etc.

CheapusMaximus

Plus, a couple of Kaw dealerships in limping distance if necessary.
Helmet World in Canandaigua if I remember right. (Mega-selection/Cheap/quality/wear without internet shipping hassles/walk out with perfect fit)

Duly noted. I'll be sure to steer clear.

Good to hear that the finger lakes area is good riding, I know nothing about the area myself.....just seen photos and RR's.

Road Apple,
Have you ridden any of the TWAT yet? I rode the bottom 1/3 one Saturday and it's very interesting.. I ride the SW portion of WI on a regular basis and have been doing so for almost 30 years, yet the TWAT route took me on stuff I had no idea that it was there...

As far as camping in Da UP, are you talking about group stuff or just up there wandering and camping? My favorite spots are out in the middle of no where on the Keweenaw but there's great riding/camping all over up der.. :)

Update: 2011 Spring ride

Be great to have you along road apple! I like the sounds of that TWAT/UP ride! love to hear more about it.

here's an UPDATE:

The date has been pretty much set to May 21-28.

We'll be departing Toledo area proceeding CCW along/around Lake Erie, exploring the Finger lakes area, then returning along the north shore of the lake returning to the Detroit/Toledo area.
(So an EDL or passport will be required. if you plan on doing this part of the trip.)

I will be camping for the trip, but it appears we will never be too far from motel options for those that prefer that route.

I'd love to hear about things/places to see, good roads, places to get good grub, etc from those that are familiar with these areas.

Stay tuned, more to come as the route shapes up.

Spring Ride 2011

My orig plan was going with someone on a VTX who is a camper, somewhat of a fair weather rider, and just about left brown things on the ground after the 'first gravel road I've ever been on' last fall. We did a Loess Hills ride last spring(all pavement) it was OK... I hadn't held out much hope for companionship to da UP planning on pavement, dirt, sand, camping and whatever. The route was to follow most of Cannonshot's Big Bike ride with diversions as they came up. I've been UP there many times in a previous life. My limits were no subframe bolt upgrade yet...(will get fixed by then) This other Great Lakes diversion sounds pretty cool too and the timing is right..
