BLUE RIDGE MEET N GREET
JULY 7, 2012

This was a good days riding last year so lets try it again...
Maybe Pat will show up...

A one day ride that is central to most in the region, and allows everyone to get back home again without violating terms of their kitchen passes.

Destination:
Devils Backbone Brewing Company
200 Mosbys Run, Roseland, VA 22967
(434) 361-1001 ‎

Start eating and drinking around Noon.
Reservations made for 40 to 60.
I will update the numbers as we get closer.

On the proposal table:

Northern Virginia and area riders to converge on Front Royal, VA., and ride Skyline Drive to Roseland.

http://www.motorcycleroads.com/route.../VA/VA_6.shtml

http://www.nps.gov/shen/planyourvisi...whole_park.pdf

It's not single track, it's not dirt. It is a great, scenic, slow paced ride, accommodating all skill levels.
Ten bucks for a NP motorcycle pass, good for a week. 105 miles of wonderland with 75 overlooks.

Thinking about an 8:00 AM departure, putting us in Roseland around noon.

Roanoke, VA. and area riders will meet up on Route 220 and run the Blue Ridge Parkway to Roseland.

(your name here) will coordinate the efforts there.

NOVA riders meeting up at Cracker Barrel, 10801 Battleview Parkway, Manassas, VA 20109-2349.

7:00 AM-ish depart for Front Royal and the Skyline Drive. (your name here) handling coordination efforts, ask up in the tread or PM for more info.

THIS IS A TWO UP FRIENDLY RIDE

Eastern Virginia riders, well it sucks. You get to slab it. Still looking for someone to coordinate a group out of Tidewater / Richmond.
Great pay and benefits. Apply by PM to vatrader, or declare your intent in the thread.

West Virginia? US 250 or US 60. Lots of other options, none real bad.

Most of the above was copied from last years invitation. If the links don't work, try something else.
This is a KLR gathering, you are used to workarounds.
And for the other bikes that want to come and bask in the power and precision the follows KLRs across the world,
you can park at the end of the row and no trash talking. (and you can buy beer for the KLR guys.)

I'm gonna try to keep the list of participants, but if you want to put together local meetup points just add them to the thread.
A local after lunch ride might be nice and we had a small camping group last year and that may happen again.

I will also post this in ADVrider later today.

Keep in touch.

Devil's Backbone...oh yeah!

I intend to imbibe...uh, I mean participate.

For those of you who don't know, Devil's Backbone is the best microbrewery around...and there is a lot of competition in this area. Can't wait.

Those of us coming up from the south (Roanoke, etc.), can meet at Peaks of Otter or James River Visitor Center and ride up the BRP to 664 or Afton like last year.

My list of KLRistas from this area has grown, so maybe the southern contingent can be a little higher in number this year.

Thanks for the "heads-up" Porcupine.

Good to hear from you Draley, a good beer review always draws them out.
You've got the Southern Front to wrangle as best you can.
As of today we have a even dozen "clients" sign on,
mostly on the ADVrider site.
And some suggestions of Dirt after lunch.
Sounds appetizing...

JULY 7th

All you riders from Roanoake, Lynchburg and surrounding area, who want to go on this "beer run"...let me know so I can start making a list. Feel free to invite other KLR/ADV riders too.

1. efigalaxie
2. draley
3. troutangler
4. Milt
5. XC Rider
6. Joey Daniel
etc....

Last year we had 5 meet at Otter Creek. 26 total KLR riders met in Afton last year and after we rode over to the road that goes up to the top of Crabtree Falls, near Montabello.

I suggest that we do that again, only this time go all the way up to the top of Crabtree Falls (Meadow Lane). We stopped halfway last year because we didn't know where we were. I've been up there since and it is a perfect KLR dirt road.

There is a trailhead/parking area up there that even has a bathroom. The AT crosses there also.

Camping is an option too. Montabello campgrounds or Crabtree Falls campgrounds are nearby.

VERY Dangerous as there are two other really good micro breweries within a mile of Devils Backbone (and a new beer bar with a lot of micros in bottles).

Put me down for a definite maybe. I have the day off, but not sure of the kitchen pass. I think I might want to camp out this time. Still wont share my growler though.

Has anyone heard from Vatrader recently??

I am very well acquainted with this brewery:

Updated Lineup

OK re: July 7 KLR cattle call
Here is the sign up list as of Friday Morning from the postings on KLRforum and ADVrider.
No sign ups from KLR650.net yet.

The little (c) indicates an interest in camping.
I expect that route selection and camping choices will be made either as the result of loud and aggresssive lobbying or by "I don't know, what do you think" processing. But certainly not until the last minute.
I look forward to the debate.

Your Direction Info Please!

When you decide that your'e IN, let us know from which direction so that we know which group you will be riding with.

I am keeping a list of riders going north on the BRP "The Southern Front". Porcupine is leading the NOVA riders coming down the Skyline Drive.

Case in point: Davo-55 just signed up, but didn't say from where. I remember Davo-55 from last year so I knew to add him to the list of riders from the south (SOVA?), but had I not known that, I wouldn't have added him to the list.

Let me know especially if you are going to ride up the BRP from the Roanoke direction.

Montabello Campgrounds was very accommodating last year. They have adequate bathrooms, showers, campstore with food and firewood. Only thing we didn't like was the dusk to dawn nightlights.
