New member & I've been scanning the interwebs for pannier racks. I didn't like the factory boxes & There aren't many options yet for 3rd gen but I know I like the Tusks. I decided to just make the 2018's fit... So, i had to let y'all know that the 2018 tusk pannier racks fit the 2022 with very little mods. Just a couple bends & some 1" longer bolts & 2 1" welds. The rear turn signal mounts for the gen 2 racks don't interfere with the original signal location at all (new turn signals are completely out of the way so NO WIRING!)
The 2018 turn signal mount backing tabs can be welded to the factory rear rack easily (seems very strong with just 4 bolting locations but I'll weld the signal tabs to the rear rack just to be sure.
You don't even have to disassemble anything on the bike like the 2nd gen requires!
Just take out 4 bolts:
The 2 top bolts for the foot pegs and 2 rack bolts...
Bend the LH passenger Cain footpeg guard out an inch or so to clear the lower LH mount (before you remove the bolt lmao... Don't ask)

Bend the top middle bolt location on the new LH rack towards the rear wheel about 3/4" give or take.

Finally bend the rear connecting fender brace arch down about 4" or so in the shop press so it fits the wider rear end and it now will mount under the fender and will push the rear fender out an inch or so further than factory.

That's pretty much it. The Right side rack bolts right up.

Like I said you can very easily weld the turn signal relocation tabs that come with the 2018 racks to the rear factory rack for a 6 point bolting system or even ride it to a local welding shop and for $50 or less I imagine you could have them weld it up real quick.

I'm "ASSUMING" (lol) that other 2018 pannier racks could undergo very similar mods if they are similar in mounting points.
I hope this helps someone else that's looking for answers on fitment to the 3rd gen with 2nd gen parts.
Ride on y'all!

Do you have a couple more pics from other angles by any chance? This is quite interesting. I have a line on some used TUSK panniers. They do not have any mounting racks with them so the fact that you made the 18's work is cool.

hello Eric
I had hoped that the 2018 racks would fit but with companies making specialty racks I thought I might have to cut & weld to make them fit.😂 to my surprise the right side bolted right up! 👍
I have yet to weld the turn signal relocation tabs to the factory rack because I feels SOLID ALREADY! I left them on there just so I wouldn't misplace them until I decide to weld them on.
I hope these pictures are good enough to see what I was trying to explain.
Thanks for your interest in my project
👊😎 👍

Bungee cords are a must!👏😂 With this setup it turns the back of the bike into a FLAT BED! 50lb dog food bags??? NO PROBLEM!

Thanks so much for this!! That is awesome!! The bar that runs side to side, is that there too. The one that runs low by the back tire? Just curious; so everything lined up with a little tweaking? Very cool. The 18 racks are also cheaper than the ones for the 22. So there is that....Yes this has got the gears in my brain working! LOL. Thanks so much for taking the time to post the pics! Very cool!

The new '22 model rear factory luggage rack assembly seems to be 2" wider or so just from what i can tell from my bending... Lol. So because of that wider rear, I needed to bend that rear support down in my shop press about 3"-4" to make it 2" wider or so then it goes BEHIND the fender at the license plate area 👍
Probably took me less time to install it on my 2022 compared to a 2018 even with the bending because there is Litterally NO DISASEMBLY of ANYTHING. No seat removal... No turn signal removal/relocation/rewiring... Just buy some longer bolts bend here, bend there & you're done!
The pannier racks sit 3/4" or so... out further on the right side due to the exhaust pipe which is normal just fyi. The medium boxes & racks together from Rocky mountain atv were $389 iirc 😎👍

One more thing; When you mount your panniers to the newly BENT rack... Mount them 1 side at a time! DO NOT put them back to back to mark them for drlling like the instructions/videos online say to do. They will be at least a 1/2" out of level from each other because you bent 1 side and not the other... Yeah I did ThAt to mine👏... i just had to widen ALL the holes up slightly on the brand new pannier boxes(smh) & tweak them around a little & tighten them back up and they're great but you'll want to avoid ThAt part 👊😂
no worries though Its a Seriously easy modification if you Have a bench vise & maybe a shop press? but you could probably bend the rear support/rack connector/fender support side to side bar thingy with just a bench vise or a small pipe bender. I have this shop press hanging around from when I rebuilt my 10 bolt rear end & so I try to use it whenever I can just to justify the floor space it takes up but its probably not necessary for this job.
You'll be surprised how nicely the racks bolt up. The turn signal mounts end up right next to the luggage rack left and right & are ready to be tack welded using the "now Extra" parts that came with the racks as spacers (in pics).

Update:
The TUSK panniers are absolutely amazing
(USE LOCTITE ON THE FASTENERS they will fall out🤣)!
The rear end of the bike can literally be lifted off of the ground by the rear support that I bent down 4" to fit behind the fenders . I've unfortunately dropped this bike like 5x in the 3500mi I've put on it. 🤣 & Always with a full tank of gas ⛽ at a stand still in some weird position at some weird angle 🤣 Man that extra 40lbs of gas feels like 100lbs in the tank & makes a big difference. And before you ask yes I know how to ride🤣 I've been riding since the 80's & motorcycle licensed since the 90's.😎👍

But I'd like to report that with These panniers and the eBay "crash" bars I modified;

2022 klr650 crash bars using 2018 klr650 eBay crash bars

Along with the Tusk D-flex handguards;

2022 klr650 Tusk Dflex handguards

Even after 5 maybe 6 drops...🤣👍 there has been absolutely zero damage to my KLR! And only very very minor surface scratches on any of my crash protection & it's Not even unsightly just a couple shiny corners here and there. IF I took all of the "crash protection" off you'd never know anything even happened 👍
So Buy/ modify with confidence because these items are GOOD to GO 💪😎👍

The new gen 3 Tusk pannier racks finally came out. They fit perfectly. I'm using Soft bags for camping trips but around town I mounted a set Apache 3800 box's with the quick disconnect. Pretty slick. The 4800 series was way too big for my needs. When I need big I use the Nelson rigg bags.

Ebay. Thick and good quality. That steel tank is like squeezing an ice cube without them.
