I've been riding motorcycles for 40 years and tonight was the first time I've ever had to use the "Reserve" on my gas tank. I routinely log 220 miles between fill-ups, but tonight I had to hit Reserve at 195 miles and stop by a remote gas station that's closed but still offers after-hours Pay At The Pump to put $5 in to ensure I made it home.

Must not have topped off the tank completely at the last fill-up: hell, I don't remember and don't know. Only explanation I can think of.

Did it startle you for a moment, we don't get as far nowdays on $5 do we?:13:
No kidding. I probably would have made it, but still had 15 miles to go and would have felt really stupid calling my wife to come get me because I'd run out of gas.

i had to use my reserve the other day for the first time too. i had ridden all day before at 70-75 mph for about 160 miles and i think i had 180miles or so on the tank and i felt the power die, it still idled but as soon as i twisted the throttle it bogged. so i flipped it over and voila power again. i was less than a mile from a gas station and about 2 blocks from home so i was fine.
