Hello there. I probably should have introduced myself to you all earlier but with some gentle persuasion from Paper, I better.

I've been riding bikes for about 10 years. My normal ride is an '02 Honda CBR F4i which I use as a commuter and for fun, weather permitting. A couple of my friends have always owned KLR's & it was tough to pick good routes sometimes as I would be on a street bike. Last year, thanks again to Paper, he found a mint condition '06 KLR 650 (lime green & black) on ebay about 50 miles from where I live. I really wasn't prepared to do anything at the time but it was in such great condition & as you all know that good used ones are hard to come by. Anyway, it had just under 1500 miles on it and I he was asking $3800 so I figured why not. Sure is a blast! This KLR is my first attempt at riding in non-street applications too.

Thanks a bunch Paper and nice meeting everyone here at the forum.

Yeah, I'm splitting riding time. The thing is I'm getting roughly 58 mpg so far and it is just getting broke in. The way I ride the Honda, I get 38 to 45 mpg depending on how much screwing around I do.

The KLr saves me gas $ even over my other bike!

What you getting for MPG?

I was averaging between 48 and 52 before my new muffler addition, but I think I have the jetting set now to maintain around 48. All this with a rider over 350#'s and a bunch of junk in my side cases. LOL My buddy normally got about what you are now,,with the muffler change he is now down between 50 and 52 or so.

I have a couple of modifications to do yet. I'm friends with members Paper & double A & last week they helped another rider major lagg replace the doohicky on his bike (was acutally broken). I ordered parts to do the doohicky for myself and two other riders and double A ordered bolts to do a sub-frame upgrade on a few bikes like mine.

I use the KLR for all of my 2 up riding too. My girlfriend has more fun riding on that than my Honda. I think the sub-frame upgrade would be a good idea too with the amount of 2 up riding I do.

The KLR is a blast.

As soon as I figure out why I can't upload pictures, I will post them. Sorry it took so long to respond but I've been trying to post pictures for awhile now and they fail to upload.

Do the following for pictures:

Create an account at photobucket.com then upload your pictures to there. Once uploaded, have the forum open and your album on photobucket opened. You then find the pic you want to post and click on the IMG option under the picture, this copies it, then here in your post you just right click and paste. Do a preview of your post and make sure the pic posted correctly. I also found out you can adjust the size of your pictures uploaded to photobucket, I use the 1024x768 option on photobucket, this makes a really nice big picture to see. Make sure to have the size option set before you upload. Hope this helps...

Ummm, this would be the point where I tell you all that I dumped it last fall. Still looks good though. I just scuffed the hand guard and the plastic around the radiator.

I think it was inevitable. Well with that done I guess I'm ready to ride anywhere.

Either build or buy you an engine guard/highway peg bar. This saved mine day before yesterday when my "BEST" buddy inadvertantly dropped my bike right on the side of the road...GASP...Low and behold my crash bar did exactly what I wanted, it kept the lower fairings off the ground and my Pelican side cases held the rest of the bike up off the ground.. The ONLY damage was a slight plastic scrape on my left rear pelican case. Our winter welding projects paid off.. :)

The engine guards & skid plate are definitely on the upgrade agenda. Double A & Paper have made these mods and are glad they did. Also plan on getting a fork brace (which is on order).
