I know you can get pipe nipples from a hardware store, I don't know if the threads will match up, but if your changing it you could just go with what they have, and change it all.
You can also buy longer/shorter turn signal stalks that might work with your stock housings. Dennis Kirk carries a large selection of different turn signal stalks.
All-thread's pretty soft, so it should be pretty easy to drill through a short length..
Usually, it's not heat treated and it's Grade 2 as far as hardness..
Drilling through 2 inches of all thread might be tough to do without screwing up the threads, and there is so little metal, wouldn't it get really hot??
