Anyone selling parts for the M1030?

539 Views 14 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  trvctor
Hi, I am looking to see if anyone currently or knows someone who sells parts for either the M1030B1 or M1 bikes. I am looking for just a few things like a goggle pouch and possibly the handlebar brushguards. Please let me know, thanks!

There was a fairly active member a couple years ago, resurrecting several of those bikes, but I can't remember his name.

There he is, Johnnny13. 2nd thread.

Looks like he hasn't been active since October 2021. Crud. Hope he is alive and well.

Thanks for letting me know though. I replied to one of this threads so hopefully he gets an email
Does it have to be original cause it looks like you can make the buffalo bar from beach chair --> 92 M1030

Actually @Johnnny13 was last active in Jan. 2022. Try starting a private conversation with him. He may get an email notification that motivates him to check it out.

Join the M1030M1 diesel KLR owners facebook group.
@JPloder. I don't own an M1030M1, but I've often considered the idea of buying one, but the uniqueness and parts availability have prevented me. Are the hard parts for the diesel part of the system available? I suspect Hayes used a lot of off-the-shelf diesel parts that can be obtained from other sources. Is that true?

There is basically one guy that has a few spare parts. If your engine breaks you better know a good machine shop.

B1 is the way to go man, precisely for the reason just mentioned. It's just an upgraded KLR650 in it's peak form. Essentially what I am doing now is taking a stock KLR and making it into one. All of the upgrades that make up the M1030B1 are freely available (progressive suspension, IMS tank, upgraded skid plate, brush guards, KLR250 front fairing mod, 383 green paint) except for the minor things like the front fender bag and blackout lights.

It appears later bikes started doing away with the tube skid plates and brush guards and going with the Acerbis Rally Pro X-Strong handguards and the Richochet skid plate instead. What this means is it'll be a lot easier to recreate the B1. The only thing you'll have to find is those blackout lights. As for the tool pouch in the front fender, any plain tactical pouch with similar dimensions from Amazon should work.

EDIT:
I've attached a photo of what I mean by the later models (this is actually an M1 but you see what I mean)

Sure but people will always ask if it’s a diesel and you’ll have to say no.

Fine by me lol. I'll take the practicality of easy repairs over running diesel anyday. Yeah running the diesel would be cool and novel but it'd be one hell of a compromise because once something breaks you could be SOL for awhile. That's some pretty high stakes.

Don't forgot the original M1030 and M1030B1 were still gas!

Dope bike though 🤘

Yeah, The bikes that were deployed were gas and several were smaller 250cc, etc.
I have a lot of respect for the guys that ride these diesels many miles since they are hard to maintain and rare. Mine has low mileage so I feel even more guilty riding it.
The diesel bike is slow… slower than a gas bike by far. The rear sprocket is the size of a large pizza. Maybe gearing will help with that but I don’t know if it has the torque to handle a much smaller rear sprocket.

I’m still around. I don’t have any spare parts. I’ve restored 7 of the M1030B1’s. There is a guy who bought a bunch or parts from a member or steel soldiers. I got a few things from him but he seems to be holding onto them now to make complete bikes?

All good man. Glad to see you're still kickin. After it became apparent that the Ricochet skid plate and Acerbis brush guards eventually became standard, I realized you can just make authentic B1 clones from gen 1 KLRs using available aftermarket parts.
