The plan to scout the Bootlegger Tour route from Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground to Two Wheels of Suches this weekend has blown up. (It's a long story!) HOWEVER, the new (tentative) plan is to go NEXT weekend and to expand the itinerary as follows:

Thursday night - May 12 - Camp at High Country Motorcycle Campground, Ferguson, NC

Friday the Thirteenth (!!!) - Scout 180 mile dirt and paved route to Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground (Cruso, NC) and camp there Friday night

Saturday, May 14 - Scout 180 mile dirt and paved route to Two Wheels of Suches, as originally planned.

Sunday, May 15 - head home

Anybody interested in one or both days?

Update! Day One cancelled (again!)

In case anyone is lurking, undecided, traveling incognito or has outstanding warrants in the area surrounding High Country Motorcycle Campground, be advised that the Friday leg of the Bootlegger scouting mission (High Country to Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground) has been cancelled - again! Real life continues to intervene!

We WILL meet at Blue Ridge Friday night - could be as many as five of us - to ride the Blue Ridge to TWoS leg on Saturday.

Hope this doesn't inconvenience anybody we haven't heard from.

Adios...

The Bootlegger scouting mission was both a success and a failure. The ride up to meet Dave, Les and Phil on Friday was a great ride with good roads and beautiful scenery. We all joined up at Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground and had a good time eating supper, sitting around socializing beside a Frito induced campfire built by a former Marine. Saturday morning started off as expected, until I had an electrical failure with my bike. After 2 hours of Les, Dave and Phil trying to figure out the problem, it was a dead end. The three of them struck off on the route to check out roads. I spent the next few hours at the campground waiting on a ride back to Georgia. Here are some highlights of the Friday ride.

Not yet Chuck, I went by the shop today so I could drop off the key. Luckily it was still doing the same thing. The plan now is to tear into it Thursday. So more than likely that means I will miss coming up to TDT. I will keep you posted.

The bike will try to turn over but never will catch and crank. Ruled out fuel, took the tank off and realized that there was no spark. So hopefully Thursday it will be figured out.

Just curious. Last year, Barb (due to not having the Automatic Compression Release on it's Hot Cams, hit so hard it blew the carb out of it's boot....which gave it similar symptoms. Dave, Randall and I looked all over before we noticed the boot was off.
