I'd install a proper skid first & wear the oem tires out. I get along fine with them. I've current got a pair of early take-offs on my bike now.

I agree, the factory rubber burns off pretty quick and once they're properly scuffed in and run at the proper pressure for the task at hand.... they're acceptable.
