Blow compressed air in that hole and it will help clean the spark plug area. Now you can remove your spark plug without debris in the way of the tool and falling in the cylinder.

Am I just blind? I do not remember seeing this same hole on my 04. Thanks for the info. Tomorrow AFTER easter dinner I will sneak out to the garage and start the process of taking stuff apart and doing a thorough cleaning, oil & filter change, and a general once over.

The bike seems to be in pretty good shape, but did spend most of its life on the Pacific coast and has some surface rust. I am going to replace all the rusted and corroded bolts, and clean and re-paint the corroded surface areas, not too bad, but I really do not like corrosion.

Pics to come tomorrow afternoon when I have some better light.
