We are haveing a car/bike show here tomorrow and I'm thinking I will put the wee-Strom in it to try and get some exposure to D/S riding around here.
I should have cleaned the KLR up today and put it in the show, But them I might just find some mud on the way and show all the "bikers" that chrome may be pretty but it might not get you home, or where you want to go.

I took the KLR.... I did run by a car wash on the way and sprayed it off.

It was a joke there. All cruisers, except for my KLR, three trikes and one custom chopper. They failed to tell me they wasn't going to consider a bike unless it cost $20,000 or more.
I did have several looking at the KLR and telling me "I started to buy one of those". But to be honest most of them (95%) were the hard core cruiser type riders.

I also signed my brother and myself up for their poker run. ( proceeds went to a worthy cause) It was unlike any poker run I have ever heard about. This was my first one ever, and maybe my last too. Every one played follow the leader on a run to Harlan and back. ( well almost everyone) 41 bikes and three trikes pulled out of the "fall fest" here in town. Bikes broke out of the formation to block traffic at the intersections, then we kinda fell back into the group somewhere. We did have a local LEO block the main road for us (US 25E).
Several times during the ride of about 50 miles the speed went from 60 to 45 then back to 60 for no apparent reason. And I was about the tenth bike, I can only imagine what the last bike was doing. The ride had to stay in Kentucky because most of the cruiser guys didn't want to wear their helmets. Over 18 years old and the choice is your to wear the hat or not. We all pulled into a gas station in Harlan, I was surprised at how many had to get gas after only 50 miles.
The leader told me the way they were going to return to Middlesboro, and I explained how my brother and I were going the other way back. He agreed it was a better route, but stated that several wanted to go that way so they would get baqk quicker. I am just not interested in riding in parades, so we came back through some nice twisties and some really nice country. (all blacktop)
I did say it was a poker run, they had all the cards in a big basket and we got to draw from the basket. They said several complained about having to stop at five places along a route to get a card. I think the just wanted to show off their $20K bikes in one big long line of bikes, or some of them was afraid they couldn't find all five stops. Anyway my pair of sixes didn't win the pot, but I did learn something for the future. No more poker runs for me. (like that one anyway).

It is drizzling here today, still rode my bike to work and out to eat at lunch. One of my buddies that I work with has the crusiers... he was surprised I was out riding today. My response, "Do you think a 30% chance of rain is going to stop me!" His response: "You suck. I want something that I can just hose off and not worry about, but I got the chrome." Me, "Yep, do you know how many hours I spend cleaning my bike... maybe a half." Again simular response... "you suck." I just smiled and went on with lunch.

All we have to do is keep rubbing it in their face... deep down they wish they had the balls to ride a bike like ours. But they are too worried about social status and what others think to have what we have.

Good job on showing it off during the poker run. :D

That is it in a nut shell.

But then if I paid $30,000.00 for a bike I wouldn't want to get it ditry either.

They decided not to ride through the Pine Mtn State Park because the roads were wet from the dew and heavy fog we had.

I wouldn't pay $30,000 for a bike... thats why I own a KLR.

That is most of my salary...screw that. I can have just as much (more) fun.[/quote]

Daddyjoe I know this is off topic, but do they still have the military aircraft from WW2 on display at the airport there in Middlesboro. I have been thinking of riding the KLR down there and checking the planes out for a while now.

Yes "Glasier Girl" is still at the airport here. Along with the museum where you can see the plane and how it was recovered. The airport has an air show every year, not srue when it will be this year but it should be soon. Let me know if you do come down, I'll buy you a coke!
