I have a 2013 klr 650. Has about 16,000 miles on it. The bike runs great normally. However, about 200 miles ago the engine started to spit and sputter trying to die. During this time, the tachometer was going crazy bouncing all over the place or remaining a zero. This happened again the last time I rode. Is this a problem common to the klr? Is it electrical?

The tach is sensitive to an erratic + 12 VDC supply; suggest you check all your connections (including main fuse holder and harness) and grounds.

On Generation 2s, loss of battery power kills the engine (not so on Generation 1s).

Supposition regarding problem only; erratic tach suggests main power fault.

Thanks for the feedback. I thought it would be electrical. I am going to have to take it to a shop for that. The battery is only 6 months old. Purchased a pretty descent battery from battery mart.

I figured it was probably going to be electrical (not my strong area). I did buy a high quality battery from battery mart about six months ago. To the shop it goes.
