....for being able to carry concealed in Illinois after today's school fiasco. Last I read Illinois had 147 days to re-write legislation that would allow concealed carry in Illinois. The shit's about to hit the fan I'm afraid. My heart goes out to the folks affected in Connecticut.

if the people in legislation had half a brain cell to rub together they would know that the answer is not less gun's it's more. a gun in the hand of an evil man will do evil, a gun in the hand of a good man will protect, defend, and in most cases make the evil man avoid doing anything in fear of what would happen to them. it makes me sick to think of what that ****ing coward did. but if there had been ONE person there packing i know it would have turned out differently. it's sad that people are so against guns. like the meme says making guns illegal will drop the death rate? we should do that with meth and heroine too. bottom line is there will always be guns in the hands of idiots. it's up to us responsible citizens to even the playing field and keep them in check. anyone who thinks differently is just ignorant and just as cowardly.

Concealed carry may have been able to help lessen that if someone had shot the guy first. You can get a gun in 2 hours in California on the black market, making more laws about gun control only hurts responsible citizens. And no I'm not a gun nut, I actually despise them, but they are a necessary tool at times. May God be with those families.

Wow- primary concern is gun rights? Nobody mentions families or children first in this thread.
Respectfully Zin,

Could care less about gun rights, just stating the fact about the dismal way society as a whole has turned. I as well as many others have been praying for those families darn near all day.

The way media has tried to cover it as well is despicable. Why in the hell would you try to interview children that just saw people they care for die?! But, that is what sells... Society chooses that, directly and indirectly. Sad way society has turned. Thread started about guns because that was the tool that caused the damage, wielded by a disturbed individual who could have been stopped, had a respectable individual had the same tool. Our country is no longer the safe haven we have enjoyed for the past few generations.

Dan....aka Paper. Feel free to do whatever you want with this thread. A couple of days ago I was happy to read that your home state was forced to succumb to concealed carry laws within 147 days. i have a feeling that that won't happen now.

I agree that today's society is seriously ****ed, to put it bluntly! I watched the news just after supper and was horrified what they were doing to try and out do their competitors....god dam bottom feeders, no compassion at all....all they are thinking about is their ratings and how to get a bigger slice of this ****ed up pie we seem to live in.

Anyone with any type of morality would know that acting this way isn't the way you should be dealing with it......let the poor families morn their loss and help in any way you can....but no....lets see who we can interview to get the juiciest story to sell.....WTF is wrong with these morrons?

I'd hate to think what I would do to someone asking me or any of my family if I was one of the devastated families who lost a child or loved one.....I think they would have me locked up for a few years because of my actions. Then of course it would be my fault for not controling my feelings and not allowing some bottom feeder to be able to their jobs.

How do these people sleep at night? Do they have any type of humanity left at all????

Sorry but,...I don't know....WTF??:13::t1204:

You pretty much covered it. They're a bunch of bottom-feeding slugs that are only trying to get the best ratings and more viewership for their stations. And yeah, they'll put on a somber face and try to act like they really care about the persons involved, but let's be real: They only care because it's the biggest news story out there right now.

The sad thing is.....as you said, they will find a more disgusting story tomorrow and then they will forget these poor kids! As bad as it sounds, wonder what they would think IF, it were one of their family members???? I bet they would be screaming at their fellow bottom feeders......to have a heart! Perhaps they need to think about what it would feel like if the shoe was on the other foot, as they say....?????:13:

I recently heard something that brought it home for me.

"The issue isn't gun control, it's self control".

Yeah, bullets flying from even more people with automatics hand guns spiked from adrenaline.....the death toll could have been even higher. Imagine in the Aurora theatre if one person had stood up to the gun man and fired back.....and then another had stood up to fire at the guy who had fired at the gun man, thinking he was also a terrorist, etv, etc. In a dark theatre with a crap load of people with guns.........only one person would have walked out alive. It would've turned into a massacre.

IMHO, more guns in the hands of scared people who are not properly trained in the ability to HOLD your fire, is not the answer. Am I a coward for thinking differently?? Ive done my time at post, have you?

In the case of the gun control or lack of it in the US, I don't care what you do, it's your kids. I have mine to worry about.

To the innocent children of Sandy Hook who died from an uspeakable horror committed with firearms that have no other purpose than to kill humanity, may you rest in peace and our prayers are with your families.:(

FYI On the very same say this incident occured, a knife wielding man stabbed and injured 22 kids at a school in China..............he was apprehended and ALL the kids survived.

I will never return to this thread.

RSD....I think you are correct in the way you are thinking.......yes if in some circumstances, if there would have been someone there with some good experience with a hand gun and could control their emotions, then perhaps things would have turned out differently. BUT, in times of panic and panic, unless you have some sort of training like you say.....some other may have been hit trying to deal with the gunman. But now there are two, so unless you saw who is firing at the original target, who do you take down??? It could turn into a domino effect.....yo see csomeone shooting, you pull your weapon, someone around the corner sees you firing at someone, they pull their weapon not knowing who is the first target and starts firing, then what? As you say, it could get somewhat messy. Would it happen, possibly not....but......

I think the best way to deal with this issue is to make it very hard for anyone to buy a gun, sure you can have one if you pass all the requirements...no problem. But if there is any doubt......sorry....nope you failed the test, please go to the knife counter! Sorry bad joke but it would help keep the death toll down just a bit....????

Yes I know how much you guys want to have the right to bear arms....but would it be that bad to make it extremely hard similar to up here to be able to get a firearm. We have to take cources and wait and have a full background check from what I understand. But if you get through all that......here ya go......granted not so much a hand gun but rifles all you want. Handguns are even more difficult I think...? I'm not sure.
The other thing would be, restricting where you can shoot them.....again, I'm not sure but it seems that you guys have very few rules as to where you can fire these things. You see many video clip of people shooting in what looks like their back yards at targets.....? I have a full acrea of property with hundreds of acres behind me of farm land, but still not allowed as we are in what they call a built up area??? So I'm forced to enjoy it elsewhere. Where it's legal so to speak.

These are just thoughts and not meant to start an arguement.....so please don't read it that way...thanks.....:13:

My oldest son lives in Stratford, CT. about 20 min. From where the horrible, senseless tragedy took place. He has 3 children under seven....I spent most of yesterday in tears as I tried to process the news reports. We CAN and we WILL talk about "solutions"....in due time.
Pray for the families.

Tom,
Like most anyone I know, if giving up all of my firearms could have stopped what happened on Friday, I'd do it in a heartbeat..

The problem is that the laws on the books, and any in the future wouldn't stop what happened on Friday. This sick bastard (coward) shoots his mother in the FACE while she slept, and took the guns she had legally purchased to protect herself from an abusive ex-husband. He then wen to the school and killed all those people with no way to defend themselves but run or hide.. (again, sick coward) and then so he wouldn't have to deal with the results, he offed himself. (again, coward)

No laws would have stopped him. He committed felony after felony and that was before shooting his way through the glass to get into the school.

The laws on the books now, and the future laws will only affect people like myself, who actually follow the laws.. They will not do anything to cowards like this. If they want to kill, they will.. As much as I hate to say it, he could have done the same with a couple hammers, a truck or a bomb..

I hope there's a special place in hell for that bastard, and on the opposite end of the spectrum I hope there's a special place in heaven for those who were killed.. :(

As far as the IL CCW, I had zero thoughts of it being anything wonderful long before the shooting on Friday... IL is a Democratic Super Majority.. House, Senate, and Governor are all Dems.. The state's counties are 95% Republican, but the populations of Chicago and East St. Louis rule the state. It is what it is.. I'm sure the CCW that they're being forced to include will be a "May Issue" and I'll have a better chance of winning the lottery than getting a IL permit.. I still have my Utah permit which is good for most of the states I visit.

If only one person in that school had been carrying a weapon and could have stopped him.. I don't advocate carrying a weapon in a school..

Mostly because there shouldn't be a need to do so.. :(

A wise old bumper sticker once said, "When guns are outlawed, ONLY outlaws will have guns." As much as I feel for those families affected, the underlying issue is not whether guns are legal or not. If these sicko's want a gun they will get it. It's too bad that the actions of a few dictate the rights and freedoms of the many. I have never raised a violent hand to anyone, and yet am I to be persecuted for my hobby? If the anti-gunners win, then what freedoms are we willing to give up next?
