Hi new to the forum. I have a question about the doohickey. I am thinking about replacing the one in my KL. However, it is an older model. 1985 KL600 b1. Does anyone know if the doohickey is the same as on the later KLR 650 bikes?

85 is a long time ago...I don't know. I do know they improved the doo in 08, but not the spring.

Where you at? You can have my old Doo to see. Nothing is wrong with it and its from a Gen 2 which have not shown to fail. I replaced it at about 2800 miles as I adjusted my tensioner and had some new noises. Opened the case and found the spring had no tension. Since I was in there and had the parts I put in Eagle Mikes. Still have the old Doo in my to chest. PM me if your interested. Shipping should be cheap, 5 or 6 bucks would be my guess its small.

No need to send Doo's as there are pictures all over the net.

Gen 2 on left, Gen 1 in middle, Eagle Mike on right.

From the schematic for the KL600 it looks like the "doo" is similar to the KLR.

I believe the"doo" is the same. In the diagram above it is PN 13168A and is the original stamped typed.

Many thanks to all for the input. I have done as suggested and sent an email to Eagle Mike regarding the part. Thanks again.

I am. I don't know what I was thinking when I looked at that picture. Of course you are right. That "doo" looks just like the Gen 1 KLR but Mike will confirm that.

Thank goodness for admin status. I can edit my embarrassment.

Editing is good.

It's the one in the very back.

Got an email answer from EagleMike the same day I sent the question. Here is what he said

"Mike,
Thanks for your note. Your part is the same. Kawasaki used the same stamped lever (like your original) through 1989, then went to the 2 piece welded part, but used the same shaft and bearings through 1995. Your original part is held in place with a circlip, so just save that for a spare. The adjustment bolt will hold it in place like all years after 1989.
all the best,
Mike"

Will be ordering the parts from EagleMike shortly. Will post pics as soon as my status allows. Thanks again for the help. Bye the way my name is Mike too.

Pulled the bike apart today. No damage, but no tension at all on the spring. Have ordered a new doo with torsion spring. Will post pics in the technical section as soon as my status allows. Thanks again for all the input.
