Yep, had the bike for a week and already knocked the front wheel out of alignment. Can anyone give a newbie advice on how to adjust it back? its off by a couple inches. Rides fine, handle bars just point the wrong direction when I ride.

Sounds odd. Did you hit something? Is the rim Bent? You could try loosening the fork clamp Bolts and have someone hold the wheel straight and then move the bars into the desired position. Sounds like the forks just slightly twisted in the clamps. If this downt resolve it you might have some issues on your hands.

I don't know if this is the right way to do it but I've always just stood in front of the bike with a leg on each side of the front wheel to keep it from turning and just tweaked the bars back until it was straight. It's worked for me for 35 years or so. Works on bicycles too.

If you can see it, it probably means the handlebars are bent. It's very very hard to see while they are on the bike the bends will drive you crazy trying to find out just where the problem is. As far as realignment of the front end parts go, loosen everything, includint the steering head and tighten them back up per spec. My best guess is that your bars are bent. Do yourself a favor and pick up a nice set of aftermarket ones, you'll be glad you did.

Ok this may be on subject but off just a hair... I was on my way home last night and hit a 4x4 post that fell out of a truck... I was doing about 55mph and hit it dead on... PUCKER MUCH! I did not go down and the bike did good, other then a bend in the rim. I was able to nurse it home with out issues as the tires and everything checked out... but the rim is bent outward on both sides where it came in contact with the sharp corners of the 4x4 wood. They push out about 1/2 inch on the left side and a bit more then 1/4 inch on the right. There is a bump...bump...bump..bump.bump.bumpbumpbumpbump as I ride. So I know that the rim is bent in some. I am not sure what to do... Try a repair or replace. Could someone let me know a good after market front wheel for a 2008 KLR or advice on how to fix this. I wanted to try here before I went to the DEALER due to cost. Either way I am sure I am going to be out a few bills on this one, but at least I did not go down and I am ok.

Again I am looking for advice on repair or replace and if replace... where and what. ie:OEM or a stronger aftermarket.

I think I narrowed the problem down to bent forks. Im going to try and bend them back after I take the wheel off and loosen all the bolts on the forks. Also the handlebars are bent!! I wanted aftermarket ones anyway, maybe not so soon...

I would post some pics but I guess im too new for that perk...

Wow glad your OK! Did you leave a brown streak on the seat I would have.

Woodys Wheel Works is well regarded they may be able to fix your rim. Worth talking to them probably.

You could just get a rim. It's not hard to spoke a wheel but you need some experience to true it up. If you did replace and re-lace the rim a good dealer shouldn't charge to much to true it.

Might be able to find a complete wheel on Ebay, the Gen 2 wheel is different than the Gen 1.
