Nah, I'm pretty happy with things being as 'non-sudden failure' prone as possible. When I was younger, I wanted cutting edge everything on my vehicles. Now I just want simple, repairable, and reliable. I have achieved fogey status, and I'm not going back!
The older I get, the simpler I want things as well👍🏼

A good idea is to carry a 10,000UF capacitor jumper setup for bump starting a fuel infected bike. I'd venture to say I'd work on a gen 3. I made one for my FE501 using this.
Where do you apply the charge stored in said capacitor?

Battery post. I used a trickle charger jumper with ring terminals and leave it plugged in all the time. I just removed the fuse until I need to deploy it. Hopefully that's never. Worth the 8 bucks for insurance.
That would allow a bump start only? I can’t imagine enough juice to crank it. If so, wouldn’t the surge to the battery be a possible fire? Electricity fascinates me, but my knowledge of capacitors is limited.

VERY interesting! Tell us more.

1.) How are you charging it? How are you putting power into it. Just plug it in I assume, no other circuitry?

2.) How long of a 12V "Boost" will it give you? They are "Storage Units" but my understanding is the time is limited.

I was thinking of putting one of these in my Bag. I have it from my Harley-Davidson Touring Days.

Thank you!

On these single cylinder small engines even a small CAP will get you going in a pinch. Emergency use only really. They are light and easy to store on the bike. Its good insurance in the event of a dead battery.

Capacitive start technology has come a long way. There are now capacitive jump starters for cars that do not require any battery charging. The capacitors charge off of the dead batteries remaining energy or other charging source. Some applications will take longer to charge the bump starter but it will charge even if the vehicles battery is in a low voltage situation.

I dont own 1 but I like the versatility. I like that you can use another battery to charge the capacitors then jump. I keep a compact solar charger on the bike along with a compressor/jump starter. With that said I still recommend keeping a small CAP with wire leads on the bike also in case options 1 & 2 fail.

New forum member here, so forgive my ignorance. Just ordered a PC6 but held off on the auto tune kit as I'm unsure of fitment for the sensor. Can anyone tell if the AutoTune sensor will fit the standard O2 sensor socket or will modifications be required? Adapters available?

Running a Yoshi RS-2, Snorkel Delete and clutch bypass. I have very loud pops on decel when exiting the interstate at 70mph. Sounds horrible w/ multiple pops. Trying to find a tune that will eliminate decel pops. Don't care about performance gains in HP.

The AIS (air injection system-emission component) is the culprit in the decel popping. It can be blocked off, and the air injection valve disconnected. I can’t remember if that causes a check engine light, but just recently another Gen 3 member answered that (maybe in this thread). I ride a Gen 2 so I wasn’t paying close attention about the CEL being an issue or not 😉. I removed mine and the decel popping stopped.., but now I kinda miss it🤣. Good luck.

If this is your first KLR, then be sure to read the following article, only one or two do not apply but it’s good info to prevent a costly mistake while maintaining the bike.

HI Ken!

The answer to your Auto Tune Question is.... NO, the O2 Sensor from the Kit will NOT fit the STOCK Bung Hole in the Gen 3 KLR Head Pipe!

I have attached a Photo of the Head Pipe as I'm REMOVING the original Bung, enlarging the hole to allow the NEW larger Bung to be welded in place. See below!

I have a 2022 KLR650 in the same color as yours! I also purchased the Yoshimura Pipe, Eagle Mike's Air Pump Block and the Dyno Jet PC6.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, Willie! Please let me (us) know how good of a tune the kit gives when you can! I really appreciate the reply. I can drill but can't weld so I'll have to either goto a dyno tuner or find a welder around my way if I get the kit.

Thanks, I'll research that and I was tracking most of those tips. Much appreciated, brother.

I have a MIG welder but Welding is not my profession and since my accident, I'm VERY rusty!

I found a local "Prop Repair Shop" that does all his work with a TIG Welder. He's good at it. With me doing the PREP, he said about $40.00.

Trying to find a GOOD Dyno Tuner later IS on my Radar though.... ;)

PS

It's more than just Drilling!!! That Pipe is thin and the original Bing is thick. Proper extraction is KEY!!!

Good to know. I'll probably just have to get a tune online or visit a tuner. I just don't have the proper drill press, tools or experience for that, then. You just saved me tons of time and money. Thank you.

Dyno Jet CLAIMS they will have more tunes available..... some time. Their website has a "Download" page.

I'm not sure if they are waiting for people like us/me to do the legwork and post the Maps.

I'm hoping what I'm doing will net me the MOST POSSIBLE from a Gen 3 KLR650 with regards to this set-up.

FYI.... I watched the Internet and found a USED Exhaust Head Pipe from a Crashed 2022 KLR650 (1500 miles - about $158.00) on Fleabay. I'm reworking this part for my Modified Set-up. That way, if I ever need it, I can always go back to my original. For those that are working on a limited budget or skills, this allows time to get the project done.

Tune won't eliminate the popping on decel. You have to disable the AIS system. You will need the Eagle Mike block off plate to install over the holes on the cylinder head after you remove the steel pipe that connects to the AIS. Then you have to remove the AIS solenoid, hoses, and block off the nipple at the air box where the AIS hose connects to. Finally, you MUST fit a resistor on the AIS plug so you don't get a check engine light. After I did this, I get no more popping. It's now a beautiful growling noise when I shut the throttle. I might get the normal popping here and there when I close throttle from WOT though. But 98% of the time no popping. It sounds really bad ass.

Does anyone have any 411 on their install of the Resistor, POST "AIS Kit" Install?

I've read/heard people are using a 23 - 24 Ohm. Some say from Fleabay.

1.) Is this correct for the Ohm Rating?

2.) Is there a CLEAN install method? Plug & Play or Solder? If so, P/N's?

3.) Any other Issues, Concerns or Comments for the install of this Kit or Mods to the Gen 3 You or other can shed some light on we have not discussed yet?

Thank you for your time!

Willie
