Hey guys, I bought a ‘15 a couple weeks back and I just looked and I’ve been running it on reserve apparently since I bought it. Is this unusual or totally normal? The guy I bought it from was a mechanic at the local ford dealership so I pretty well trusted his judgment, but have to find out. I can’t imagine it’s that bad as I always fill at 250mi but never hurts knowing for sure. Btw Idaho rider here.

No. Running continually on RESERVE isn't, "normal."

Switch the lever position to, "ON," and . . . shift to RESERVE only when you're low on fuel or . . . run out of gasoline entirely from the ON position.

When you run out of fuel from RESERVE? There's a, "secret reserve" available, offering a few more miles in that condition! :)

And,,, Get it in your head which way to turn it to go into reserve. You need to be able to do it "On the fly".

Also . . . don't FORGET you accessed the reserve volume when you arrive at the fuel station! Turn the lever back to, "ON" when you fill up. Otherwise, the next time your engine stops from lack of fuel, you'll find you're REALLY out of gas! No reserve volume!

Except . . . for the, "secret reserve," of course! :)

I was thinking that’s not NORMAL, hence the question, now hear this, I was on ON today and am at 204 or so for mileage and on the way home today I seemed to run out of fuel and had to put it on reserve to make it home. Put about a gallon in from the lawnmower gas which is reg unleaded but thought that was weird since I usually fill at 250 and know this tank should carry me till 300-350 at most. What’s your thoughts?

no, not normal but it doesn't hurt anything (except your pride, if you run out of fuel and have to walk!)

Ya, no kidding right. Well see my last reply and wtf. Idk why I’d only make it to 204 or so till running low or OUT of fuel. This is all in mileage too btw, not klm. Or however you abbreviate kilometers. Lol

On my gen1, I usually get 56 mpg and get gas somewhere between 200 and 250 miles. At 220 miles I switch to reserve because I don't like running out while in traffic. The maximum I put in is 5.1 gals. I don't know exactly how big the tank is and would be interested to know how much other rider's tanks hold.

it's rated at 6.1 but it's really 5.8 or something thereabouts. I get about 400kms (250 miles)on my bike with my IMS 6.6 (which actually holds close to 7galls) so just over 200 miles is all I'd get from the stock tank. Mileage itself is highly dependant on load, speed, aero and your penchant for throttle modulation. You used to get 250miles because you were using the reserve as well....but must have been on fumes.
