Makes perfect sense to the bean counters for some insane reason
It's good that owners have an "out" for future pump failures. But I aint "buying" any pumps....not ever. Kaw, or my extended warranty, can absorb those expenses. And that's if I even still have the KLR a few years from now. This is what I’ll be purchasing if mine ever kicks the bucket.
Can’t beat that lifetime warranty, and the brand name seems to be well liked.
I'd considered posting something referring back to a discussion we'd had on potential problems "way back when" they first released the 22 with EFI, but that seems to be kind of poor behaviour - kind of like kicking your friend when he's down. Plus, I think that this is a Gen 3 thread, and this Luddite doesn't want to get yelled at by you modern-technology kind of folks.Four whole pages, and no sanctimonious non-EFI owners bragging about their carburetors?![]()
It’s incredible it’s an issue at all. How many EFI motorcycles are out there that no one gives second thought to, including those in Kawasaki’s own fleet? Never mind automobiles. And I can’t think of a worse model for it to have happened too. (Imagine the XR650L or DR-Z having the same issue, as if Honda or Suzuki especially will ever upgrade them.)I'd considered posting something referring back to a discussion we'd had on potential problems "way back when" they first released the 22 with EFI, but that seems to be kind of poor behaviour - kind of like kicking your friend when he's down. - That said, I was afraid there would be "bugs" with the new Generation (just like the 2008's...), but I'm glad that it's going to be under warranty!
Agreed - it's not like KHI has never used EFI before, and I'm glad that the Versys fuel pump seems to be a practicable replacement, but it's a little disappointing. That said, I had a BMW with fuel pump issues, and that was both embarrassing and expensive! It’s incredible it’s an issue at all
Bought August 6 in HoustonThat’s interesting. I’m in Canada and my VINs not recalled yet, although Transport Canada is typically slower to respond than it’s US partner. I have an LD7 as well, purchased May 2022. I’m curious, are you in Canada and when was your purchase date?
I don’t have the same trust in my local stealerships as you do.It's good that owners have an "out" for future pump failures. But I aint "buying" any pumps....not ever. Kaw, or my extended warranty, can absorb those expenses. And that's if I even still have the KLR a few years from now.
That's why I drove 1 & 1/2 hours to buy mine! I have a Kawasaki Dealer 15-20 min from me! They are a bit.... lacking! When you are near that "Dealer" you always hear a whistling sound. That's them.... SUCKING!!!I don’t have the same trust in my local stealerships as you do.
Would rather do all the work myself…if I can help it.
Yep, recalls can happen on any vehicle, even among the top marques. BMW recalled my '99 R1100R for a front shock replacement on the cantilever front suspension....3 years and 31K mi down the road. Apparently some had failed, though mine was fine. Got the free one installed which was still fine at 75K mi when I sold the bike. Recalls-schmeecalls, no biggie.Agreed - it's not like KHI has never used EFI before, and I'm glad that the Versys fuel pump seems to be a practicable replacement, but it's a little disappointing. I hear ya. My nearest Yamaha/Kaw dealer is less than 30 min from home, but they never have the bikes I want in stock. Next nearest dealer is 92 mi away, but they had a KLRA in stock, so I made the journey. I won't ever go back there for service though, they didn't do jack shit for the prep. Hadn't even unlocked the ECU for me to drive it off the lot. Chain adjust nuts loose, rear wheel not aligned, no prep test ride. They didn't mind charging me $ 800 for dest & prep though. Nearby dealer has pretty good service dept, so there's that....That's why I drove 1 & 1/2 hours to buy mine! I have a Kawasaki Dealer 15-20 min from me! They are a bit.... lacking! I had a good rapport with my purchasing dealer. But have since moved 5 hours away to an area with some decent dealers I've dealt with in the past (where I bought my Grom, or where my brother goes). But I'm really glad that I'm not being "forced" to go to a dealer right now hat in hand.I don’t have the same trust in my local stealerships as you do.

I wonder why they don't order the parts and call YOU when in? POOR management! My pump is on the recall list. Dealer wants to take apart bike and leave it there untill they get a pump. No time for that.
