This is what I’ll be purchasing if mine ever kicks the bucket.
Can’t beat that lifetime warranty, and the brand name seems to be well liked.
It's good that owners have an "out" for future pump failures. But I aint "buying" any pumps....not ever. Kaw, or my extended warranty, can absorb those expenses. And that's if I even still have the KLR a few years from now.

Four whole pages, and no sanctimonious non-EFI owners bragging about their carburetors? :ROFLMAO:
I'd considered posting something referring back to a discussion we'd had on potential problems "way back when" they first released the 22 with EFI, but that seems to be kind of poor behaviour - kind of like kicking your friend when he's down. Plus, I think that this is a Gen 3 thread, and this Luddite doesn't want to get yelled at by you modern-technology kind of folks.
  • That said, I was afraid there would be "bugs" with the new Generation (just like the 2008's...), but I'm glad that it's going to be under warranty!

It’s incredible it’s an issue at all. How many EFI motorcycles are out there that no one gives second thought to, including those in Kawasaki’s own fleet? Never mind automobiles. And I can’t think of a worse model for it to have happened too. (Imagine the XR650L or DR-Z having the same issue, as if Honda or Suzuki especially will ever upgrade them.)

I never wonder if my 10 year old Super Tenere or Honda Grom are going to start.

Agreed - it's not like KHI has never used EFI before, and I'm glad that the Versys fuel pump seems to be a practicable replacement, but it's a little disappointing. That said, I had a BMW with fuel pump issues, and that was both embarrassing and expensive!

I don’t have the same trust in my local stealerships as you do.
Would rather do all the work myself…if I can help it.

That's why I drove 1 & 1/2 hours to buy mine! I have a Kawasaki Dealer 15-20 min from me! They are a bit.... lacking! When you are near that "Dealer" you always hear a whistling sound. That's them.... SUCKING!!! ;) (y)

Yep, recalls can happen on any vehicle, even among the top marques. BMW recalled my '99 R1100R for a front shock replacement on the cantilever front suspension....3 years and 31K mi down the road. Apparently some had failed, though mine was fine. Got the free one installed which was still fine at 75K mi when I sold the bike. Recalls-schmeecalls, no biggie.

Called my local Kaw dealer today, he wants the bike in-shop to take his own pic to initiate the process with Kaw HQ, before he can officially place the order for the part. He thinks there's gonna be a sudden run on the pumps soon, suggests getting in there ASAP. It's raining today, I'm going in tomorrow! :)

I hear ya. My nearest Yamaha/Kaw dealer is less than 30 min from home, but they never have the bikes I want in stock. Next nearest dealer is 92 mi away, but they had a KLRA in stock, so I made the journey. I won't ever go back there for service though, they didn't do jack shit for the prep. Hadn't even unlocked the ECU for me to drive it off the lot. Chain adjust nuts loose, rear wheel not aligned, no prep test ride. They didn't mind charging me $ 800 for dest & prep though. Nearby dealer has pretty good service dept, so there's that....

I had a good rapport with my purchasing dealer. But have since moved 5 hours away to an area with some decent dealers I've dealt with in the past (where I bought my Grom, or where my brother goes). But I'm really glad that I'm not being "forced" to go to a dealer right now hat in hand.

I really hope Kaw is geared up for the FP recall, parts-wise. A couple years ago I bent a rim on my Tracer 900. None were available in the U.S. at the time , and only 5 total in stock in Japan. Did I want my dealer to pin one down for me?...hells yeah! Paid for it immediately on the phone the day after I bent it....$375. Took the better part of three months for it to arrive from Japan. Hopefully we won't still be dealing with supply chain issues. First come, first served. Won't be surprised if they quickly exhaust whatever pumps are on hand, nor if there's a time gap between available batches of pumps. I know I aint wasting any time on this.

If I'd had my cataracts fixed sooner, maybe I would've seen the rock in the road in time to swerve! lol

My pump is on the recall list. Dealer wants to take apart bike and leave it there untill they get a pump. No time for that.
I wonder why they don't order the parts and call YOU when in? POOR management!

My GUESS is they are worried about getting "stuck" with the parts if you don't return. That's the only reason I can think of if they are your "Selling Dealer". It's a "Recall"! They HAVE YOUR VIN! (n)

Are they a "SMALL" Dealership?

just registered to post and thank the forum and posters for this thread, got my '22 in to the dealer for inspection today thanks to you all, unfortunately it has a faulty pump.
The dealer ordered me the replacement and said it would be 7-10 days before the replacement arrived and not to ride the bike until then.
I was the first bike to present for this recall in the largest dealer of the largest city in Montana they said.

Find a different stealership that knows what they’re doing.
One that doesn’t waste your time. They are becoming hard to find nowadays.

Appreciate the heads up on this fellas -
My vin was on the recall list, but the lot number for the pump was not.
Still going to call the dealership just to have the official check "logged" I guess.
