As some of you may know I made a trip on the KLR to a Julian Tech Day back in June of 06. I had plans of riding the coast Hwy, like Bronson did on his TV show years ago. I made it to the southern most point on the left coast, (legally ridable) with Eagle Mike and Geneva leading the way. We didn't walk all the way to the fence but we got close.

Eagle Mike then led us up the coast to a small town where we ate lunch, and then we had the sad part, "goodbyes"

I headed on up the coast not knowing how far I would go, or how long I would take going.

I stopped a lot to call my wife Marcia,

I was missing her a lot by this time and she had been sick the past couple days, so that would play a big part in my decisions later that day.

I rode up to Santa Barbra where I called Marcia again. I was not enjoying myself as much as I thought I would, and I know the reason was because Marcia was not with me to enjoy it too. So I decided to head home and come back when Marcia could come too.
We had plans for a vacation in late Oct, but I knew it would be too cold for Marcia and myself to be riding a motorcycle up the coast to Washington, (or Alaska) And I had promised my dad I would take him to see his brother in Tucson AZ. So our plans for a motorcycle ride up,(or down) the left coast has been put off until next year, or the year after.
We will be spending our 14th aniversary somewhere in AZ, or maybe CA. The only plans that we have so far is Fly into Phoenix on the 24th/25th of Oct. Rent a car and take my dad to Tucson. Then back to Phoenix on the 26th for the Allen Jackson concert at the AZ State fair.
What we do from the 27th until we get back on the plane on the 2nd of Nov is up in the air. Marcia has never been west of Alabama so the Grand Canyon is almost a must see for her. ( I have been there and done that) ( but not with her) So it will be a pleasure to see it again with my wife.
Our aniversary is the 29th so I'll be looking for something romantic for that day/night. Marcia dose NOT like cold weather, so I'm thinking we might head south, or maybe southwest after a visit to the Canyon.
My plans when I left the left coast was to buy a van to haul us all three out there pulling a wee-Strom for Marcia and I to ride up the coast. But I didn't get the van and time restrictions caused us to fly and rent a car. I did get the wee-Strom. Laughing

My wife was getting a little grousy because she missed out on some of my rides this year. She owns & rides a Buell Blast and takes it to a lunkhead of a mechanic (me) when it needs attention. The Blast is somewhat limited on road comfort so we have been discussing getting a small trailer to take the Blast and KLR on weekend trips next season. It is fun riding two-up on our Harley, but it is even more fun to ride side by side.

Hope things work out for both of you and your destinations become realities!

You must be getting ready to go about now. Shame you can't have your bikes out there. Great riding country. I drove up to the Grand Canyon on my Virago (pre KLR days) and it was a blast. You are correct about being there with your wife. Makes a big difference.
