Please don't shoot me for saying this...

I personally think the Gen1 headlight cowls are kind of ugly and cumbersome.
Would a KLR250 or KLR600's cowl fit without having to modify any of the brackets too much? I'd like to try and keep it as factory looking as possible.
I have access to a lot of flat steel stock at work as well as a band saw; I also have a welder at home if need be.

I'm not sure if my opinion on this comes from me seeing DRZ's, XT350's, and XR400's growing up, but I'd like a headlight cowl along the lines of those.

It can be done but there is substantial work involved since the stock cowl is frame mounted, not fork mounted like the one you're talking about. The military KLR uses the 250 headlight
