It seems that I have come down with KLR Fever. I've been :mad0235: trying to decide between an '07 or an '08 model. I will mostly be using it for street, but in Central Texas I'm sure I can find alternative routes.

I plan on buying one in the next week and am going crazy trying to decide which model. There are some really good deals on used ones, both '07 and '08, with low miles, but I need to choose.

I am 6'2" and about 225. Is it really that big of a difference:confused:

Any help would be great!

Welcome. Test drive both, and then decide. I love my 05, and have not ridden an 08, but whatever you chose you will not be dissapointed!

Have fun, ride safe.

Hi ! What part of Central Texas do you reside? I live about 30 miles south of Waco. In the small town of Marlin. I have been riding an 02 KLR I bought in Aug of 06. I am 6'2" and 235lbs. It carries me well. But I do mostly solo. I don't have any experience with the 08. But as you stated there are some great deals on used ones if you take your time looking. Mine was like new.

I am a touring type. But had been admiring the dual sport bikes for a long time. I like BMW's. I have been riding BMW's since 1990. I like the BMW GS models but not the price. Over the years I got to read a lot about the Kawasaki KLR 650 on many web sites. I started looking for a good used one. The one I have only had 1700 miles when I purchesed it. It was like new, still is! A California model. I use it around town and for relaxing country rides and gravel roads. I really like it. But when I really want to get some miles behind me and in comfort I use my BMW R1150RT. But the BMW is terrible on gravel and dirt roads!

Good luck on your choice!

Made My Choice

I just got home from purchasing a 2007 KLR 650 with less than 2700 miles on it. It is immaculate and I am certainly not disappointed. Suprisingly a very nimble machine. What a huge blessing right at Christmas.

Thank you everyone for your replys...KLRFEVER - Now I can run with the big dogs. :animal0019:

You will find that the KLR is very capable at many things (boy, haven't heard that one before :18: ).

I read a great report in Road Runner magazine from Sum '02. The ride was in the Hill Country of Bandera County. Do you ride that area often. Looks like a lot of fun!

Hello and welcome. I've owned my ' 03 since July of this year and love it. I've ridden it from here, in Midland to Houston and back with no problems or complaint's. While in Houston, I let my younger brother take it for a spin. Now he's been shopping for one. I tell you this, because he's 6'2 and 260 + pound's. That's also why he's a younger brother, not a little brother!

Whichever you choose, it's my opinion that you'll really enjoy your KLR. Keep in touch. My wife, daughter and I go camping in Central Texas a few times each year. Maybe we can hook up and you can show us some good places to ride.
