Hi folks I just got my 2006 KLR 650 last week. Been a long time looker here. Ive had many bikes over the years but decided it was time for a KLR. Picked it up for 2700 with 9k on the clock. Priced new ones and decided they are out of their minds so tracked this one down on CL local to me.Have not seen many comments about 2up. My wife likes riding with me as much as I like riding so she goes with me on most trips other than commute to work.Any tips on setting up the suspension for no squatting so bad with 2 up. Im little over 200 and shes about 165 and the bike sits low with us on.

I recently installed their Moab shock on my 09 and so far have been very happy with the load carrying capacity of it compared to the stock shock. Also have the correct fork springs and emulators (yet to be installed). Basically, you send Rick your specs and he builds a shock for you. You may want to also check out Eagle Manufacturing & Engineering for their subframe bolt kit. Eagle Mike is another great KLR expert and sells nothing but the best.

Yeah the experts suspension guys will give you the best 411. I resolved my rear sag issue with a 1 inch lift and a 520 shock. The largest they can fit on a KLR, it still has rubbed the swing arm. lol But I'm 6'4" and 280 riding thru the woods. 2 Up at 350 lbs on paved roads is different. But till you get new shocks and springs try setting the preload (Left side behind battery) to the highest setting and increase the dampening too (bottom of shock under metal clip). This will NOT help with off road or gravel riding but will reduce bottoming out on paved roads. A heavier fork oil in the front and some better springs will probably help too. Ride safe.

Well I put on a new chain today. After cutting the old one off I realized it was worse than it looked. I would venture a guess it was the original no master link. Thanks for the tips on the suspension. Set it up to level 5 and it helped a lot , now trying to find the sweet spot for the dampening. Next thing tires. Im leaning towards a good road tire any suggestions. I dont think Im interested in the Shinkos but like the idea of low cost.

I found the stock front to be a capable tire but as for a good road rear tire I've only had an Avon Gripster. It worked well on road but sucked golf balls thru garden hoses on anything worse than gravel. In mud it was actually useless.

You can use the image code from sites like smug mug or photobucket in your response to display pictures. Works the same as posting a video from you tube.

Well I just ordered a set of Shinko 705's and new tubes. Ive got new brake pads to put on while Im doing the tires and a new set of sprockets.How often do you guys change out your wheel bearings ? Im thinking about doing it while I have the wheels off for new tires just so I know they are good to go.

Just a little update. Got the new tires on and really like them. Took the wife on a ride today 120 miles of mostly back roads and some state forest roads in and around Tar Hollow and st rt 327.

Well today I did the Doo. The spring was broke but factory doo still looked good. Installed new Eagle Mikes goodies.Fresh oil filter and Rotella T6 and shes smooth. I do hear a little chain whirl at idle is that normal or do I have it too tight ?
