Just wondering if anyone has found the need? And...........if in the spirit of the KLR, has any DIY ideas. Planning a bit of a road trip and changing positions seems like a good idea.

If you have motech crash bars you can use the cheap bolt on ones. I had some on. I don't anymore. They were nice on long trips, though.

I've never been able to go without highway pegs.

Gotta stretch out those legs. I use driver, passenger, and highway pegs.
Switch off every so often.

As Lockjaw was leaning towards....the pegs will have to attach to something
stronger than fairing plastic. A crashbar is in order. Plus, the bar will pay for
itself first tipover and ya price some plastic parts, a mirror, whatever else gets
"impact sickness".

I made a crashbar fit from a Hondamatic 400.
KLR specific bars are obviously easier, but I'm Cheap, er frugal, or broke most of the time.

No.

Have not found the need.

Have lost track of how many 1,025 to 1,050 mile days I've ridden. Plus enough back-to-back 600-mile days. More typical, though, is about 400 miles/day.

I DID level the seat which raised it by a half inch or so, and lowered the footpegs by an inch or so.

I'd say that you might set up your pegs/bars/seat to be comfortable then see if you really need highway pegs.

Cars have seats that slide forward n' back, backrest tilt, adjustable steering wheels, etc.

Everything is rigid on a scooter and we have to make each individual unit fit our
body and posture comfortably. For us, every adjustment costs money other than
handlebar tilt. It can get pricey if we have to do it all. Adding risers, raising or lowering
feet pegs, reupholstering seats, raising and lowering links for the suspension, highway
pegs and the angle they leave our legs, comfy grips, the right height windshield.
It can get crazy if we don't like it as-is. Japanese mfrs think we're ALL 5'8" and 140 lbs.

Have they seen a 300 lb dude with a 6 foot arm span? lol,

I made these for my 2011. I was going for function rather than form and style. I have had several types of manufactured highway pegs that bent out of shape on the first or second drop and I drop mine a lot.

The attachment to the frame is two 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 x 1/8" angle irons bolted through the front engine mount.

The cross bar is 1x1x1/8" square tube with 3/4x3/4" sliders in the ends for adjustment. I could have skipped the adjustable part because I have never needed to adjust them.

The cross bar is hinged by 1x1/8" flat stock welded at an angle on one side and a 5/16 bolt welded to the other side as a hinge pin. Real world testing proved a 1/4" hing pin was not strong enough. A return spring keeps it in place.

In a drop the cross bar swings back and the pegs swing back so nothing gets damaged.

I have tested this on the TAT from Green River, UT to the Pacific and on the Manitoba and Saskatchewan sections of the Trans-Canada Adventure Trail.

As a side note while I was typing this someone stole my trailer hitch ball and mount from my truck in the driveway. The guy across the street got a description and tag number.
