First time with the seat off. Kill sw. only, overnight killed battery. Charger cktry says shorted cell, replacing battery today. Two hoses hooked to tank. left & right sitting on bike and one coming (about 1/2" diameter, coming up from the depths) Someone identify them for me? (Still no manual as yet)

Thanks much,

Jim

Hi Jim!
In my Clymer manual the hoses should be color coded on the bike, the red hose to the right port on the tank, going down to the mid right side of the liquid/vapor separator.
The blue hose to the left port on the tank, going down to the top left port on the liquid/vapor separator.

Thanks, Jeff - boy, that was quick!

Those are NOT kisses....

How 'bout the large hose - looks lke it disappears under the right side. It looks to have been unplugged since I've had the bike. Gonna try to ride this thing to Frankfurt, KY Friday 9 Aug to meet with the Valkyrie riders. They said "bring it on!"

Diagram doesn't show relative size. What color is it? If Green it goes from the top of the air box to the lowest port on the rectangular box canister.

Duh!

Thanks. Jeff. I left the seat bolts out - so next day or so will track it down. Hose is black with an enlarged end. Is there anything to make me feel dumber than runin' out of fuel on the way home, out in the boonies, and grab the selector to go to reserve and discover it's already there? Nice lookin' lady took mercy on me , turned around and gave me a lift into town. Said she had just sold her 750 Honda and regretted it. I promised I would pay the favor forward....

LOL! That reminds me I should go and check mine. I'm not sure if I turned it back to "ON" after my last fuel shortage!

Jim Sizemore, we must tell you of the SECRET RESERVE fuel supply available in all KLR650s!

Should you "BINGO" (i.e., deplete your available fuel supply), with your petcock in the RESERVE position, you can: LAY THE BIKE DOWN ON ITS LEFT SIDE.

This maneuver releases the fuel stored in the SECRET RESERVE, allowing you to re-start your bike and, one hopes, ride to a fuel source or at least a more convenient location.

The "SECRET RESERVE," is, of course, just a common name for the geometry of the fuel tank permitting redistribution of residual fuel when the amount available from the reserve outlet is exhausted, tank in essentially vertical orientation.

Secret reserve

I did know about that but I was on flat ground and my knees are beginning their 80th year next month ( and hurt!). Didn't feel like I could pick it back up....
Will practice when they feel better and some is around in case I need help. I leaned it over but was not enough....

Thank you for your concern Damocles

Jim -

If you have room on your bike and a convenient place for it, you can carry a large MSR fuel bottle of gas. It's made for fuel and 30 ounces can make a difference. They're about $20.

And a bit of hose to siphon with, too.

Dump the 30 ounces into the left side of the tank (occurs naturally when on the kick stand), then siphon off of the right side into the bottle and pour that into the left side. A couple of times will do it.
