Is there ANY interest out there in a Tech Day in the Houston area? Bound to be a bunch of KLRs here. Some guys know how to do stuff and others need a little help with normal upkeep items. Houston SHOULD have an active KLR650 community as big as it is. If you are interested shoot me a PM and let me know when ( weekends or week days) would be best for you. I am sure that we can find a good place for this. If you have gotten your bike where you want it, you can give some ideas to other riders. You don't need to NEED help to benefit from a tech day.
One of the biggest complaints that I hear is " I don't have anyone to ride with". This is how to solve that. Again, PM me if you are interested. Ride safe James

Hey! I'm in Austin, but would come down for a Houston Tech day! I'd really appreciate talking KLRs in person with folks who know them well!

Houston Texas Area KLR 650 Riders
A small group of local KLR riders are having a Meet and Greet Saturday. The location will be the Dairy Queen located at 10730 West Belfort ( between Wilcrest and US59). Time will be at 1:30 PM. If you would like to meet some other KLR owners come on out ( you are buying your own ice cream). Hope you decide to be there. James

I'm in rockport TX for the winter, would like someone with the tools 2 show me the DOO, I have it, just not the 2 special tools needed. 2018 KLR 6,300 miles on it in 8 months.

Down there with the snowbirds, lineman? :)

At the risk of censure and denigration from the forum, I don't think you ride in grave danger with a latter-day OEM doohickey. The idler gear lever (new one) isn't apt to break; weak or broken spring perhaps likely, but hardly the risk catastrophic collateral damage of the grenading-prone previous part. The EM aftermarket doohickey, and certainly his, "torsion spring," remain positive upgrades.

As to your request, I have a partner in Sugar Land (no, not the "KLRChris") with the tools and the know-how; don't know of his availability/interest/willingness. Will inquire if you like.

BTW, GoMotor ain't too far away! You might PM him.

I just wish to keep it dependable, as I mostly ride alone/with tripple A, as backup.
I love the ( kinda, mostly) simplicity) of the KLR.
So far, any problem I have had,,,, I caused. (Hence) me not doing the doo, myself, wouldn't ,, cause my next ( oooops)
( I'm a,winter Texan) this year. Just ordered the 14 tooth front sprocket for when I go visit my brother in AZ for a few weeks.
Going from a 17/tarbaby, sprocket, to a 14, should be interesting. ( yes I have the stock 15, off it) 70/30 tires.
( love this forum)
People on hear are very nice and helpful
