Simple, ride on the edge of the highway :ROFLMAO: it is either dirt or grass or perhaps bituman as well. It is a KLR, ride over anything on everything. Have the right tyres on it and will fly over anything.
We have something called lane splitting here down under. If traffic is under 30kph or stopped we can ride between cars and split the lanes. At traffic lights works well as it gets you to the front of the lights to take off fast.
California has Lane Splitting! Not sure if other States do...

The state of California has Lane Splitting. Some states now allow "limited" lane splitting similar to what you described there in Australia.

California has had Lane Splitting since I can remember. So the drivers are used to it. And many riders, take full advantage of it. Sometimes not so safe. However, when used safely along with California drivers so aware of it, one can almost do whatever is convenient. 99% of the time I'm always at the front of the line at an intersection. 99% of the time I'm never stuck in stop and go traffic on our freeways. It's hard to describe the feeling, except to say, it's like being uncaged from the shackles of being at the mercy of the lowest common denominator.

Yeah the weather is fantastic. We're drowning right now, but we've had very little rain for years. :ROFLMAO:

The politics suck. The Wokeness is sickening and absolutely dumb. And it's not exclusive to California. But that's a subject we want to avoid.
TRADE Weather!!! ;)

Splitting/ filtering is illegal here in NC, but I do it everyday I ride.
It’s a lot safer than sitting in traffic.
Since the plandemic nobody gets pulled over anymore, at least not here.
I’ve passed every form of law enforcement and no one has even looked at me.
Other drivers hate it, me, me, me I was first but I don’t care how much they blow their horn.

I'll take some "liberties" at stop lights and the like.

Up here, close to "The Cities" it's like the U.N. with our "Diversity"! NOT everyone LOOKS when they drive! I mean.... I've lived here ALL MY LIFE, its gotten MUCH worse over the years!!! You HAVE TO use all legal, and some not so legal methods of Riding to survive these days!

Up here, you gotta ride like EVERYONE IS TRYING TO KILL YOU!!! Most of them Drive by FEEL!!! ;)

You would have to kill me first. :ROFLMAO:

I'll rub more salt on you: the terrain is also awesome. We have more diversity in terrain than you do in MN's cultural diversity. Desert (as in we have dunes). Mountains (real ones like Colorado). Coastline (hundreds of miles). Urban Jungles :rolleyes::poop:

Australia is similar.

Ok we don't have Tropical Rain forests and Salt Water Crocks.

Here are a few of my racing photos. I am number 32 and in one picture number 101. You can see how close some of the racing was back then. Pictures from Ascot and San Jose half miles.

Any guesses who number 80 is? We are both riding Montesa's at the Ascot TT.

In my Youth, If my Dad wasn't racing Enduros, we were watching his buddies race Flat Track, Speed Way or going to the Moto-Cross Races & Hill Climbs (and Sturgis)! Heck, they would even put Pop Syrup on the Floor of the Armory, wrap the support Poles with Hay Bales and RACE Flat Track in the Winter! As a Kid, I'd go to the TOP Seats to get a better WIFF of the RACE FUEL & CASTOR BEAN OIL BURNING!!!

I loved it!!! STILL DO!!!! Yup.... I'm SICK that way!!!

Bob Goodpastor is the only #80 I can suggest. He was a good friend of mine! His son, and his grandson ran #80 for years in AHRMA.

Really ?? I dusted the doors on a big truck with a hefty stack of logs uphill last week !! He never stood a chance
I once blew away a brand new mustang GT on a dirt road in Ohio. Hehe. If you need more go down low... Drop a tooth in the front sprocket. I went up a tooth from stock and it's a great around town bike. For a porker it feels so light and nimble leaning into the turns and on the road. The weather here in Fl dropped to the 50's (Yes I am a Florida wuss) so I have been taking the Gold Wing more for wind protection but soon it will be 75 every morning and I'll be loving the 45+ mpg again. I think what you did was bought a "jack of all trades" bike. The KLR does it all but it's not a race bike and it's not a hardcore dirt bike. It's the bike that will take you anywhere and it's priced so good you got to love it. It doesn't pretend to be something it isn't and you can mod the heck out of it to tweak it to your riding environment. I have decided that now that I am over 50 I am keeping all the bikes I buy for the rest of my life. When my back gives out and my body fails me I envision walking in my shop and patting the old girl on the seat and saying.... Thanks for the memories!

I hope you end up liking the bike.

Everything above , Still my favorite bike to just hop on and go …. And I have 5 different bikes for 5 different riding situations….
Just my 2 cents
Your my type of guy! 5 bikes! That is the way to do it. I am 3 behind. I wish I never sold all my old bikes. It would have been cool to have the first bike my future wife and I rode on.
