I bought and installed a vance hines muffler and stage one jet kit. The Kawasaki dealership installed the jet kit. The bike runs great but pops once in a while when I accelerate. I have noticed its much more responsive in lower gears but seems to have lost some on the top end. What can I do to improve the top end? I have looked into the 385 upgrade but its costs prohibitive at this point. I drive on the highway alot and would like to use a 16tooth sprocket for lower RPM's and gas mileage.

I use a 16T and it raised my mpg and lowered my rpms. All in all I think it was the best thing that I did to the bike. It used to feel tighter than a drum head at 65 - 70mph, not it just cruises along. I still use it on trails occasionally and you just gotta be good with the clutch.

Set your mixture screw out 2.5 turns from seated. If that doesn't get rid of the pop then go to the next size up main jet. Make sure the needle is on the 3nd notch from top and shimmed.

I installed the 16Tcounter sprocket a couple of weeks ago and noticed a decline in snap in acceleration ecspecially in gears 4 and 5. At highway speeds the RPM's for cruising are definitely better and I'm sure my gas mileage will be better.

This week I did the PVC mod and seemed to get most or all of my acceleration back. If you haven't done this mod I would definitely recommend it. It cost me $3.09 for the 272 PCV valve at auto zone and less than 10 minutes to install it.
