Hey all,

Name is Ron, I currently ride a Z1000, but since moving to Oregon I've been looking at trading it on a KLR so I can take advantage of the fire roads and trails we have here. That and I've been getting into too much trouble on the Z. So, I'm here for info and advice.

Welcome to the forum...

Ron we spent a few weeks in Oregon this past Sept. and I don't think you will go wrong getting a KLR. It is a gr8 all around bike that excells at nothing except being able to do it all.
Feel free to read the archives and ask anything about the KLR.

Ron, nice looking bike you got there, but I understand your situation. Between 1992 and 1994, I had a red Katana 750. It was a great way to sport-tour without having pain all the time. Of course, like a lot of us who get dual-sports, I noticed many, many FS roads and trails off the side of the road that I wish I could explore. Well, in 1994, all that changed when I got my brand new 'Barbie' KLR. Been happy ever since.................. :)

It's a tough Choice

It will take you a while in getting used to the KLR....... it needs another gear, a 6th would be nice and about 20 or 30 hp more to give a little thrill, however in saying that, the bike does what does and does it well.

I went from a Concourse to KLR in 2006 and it felt like riding a nimble little dirt bike. I have gotten used to it after 4000 km's and I am quite comfortable riding it. After owning 16 bikes, I can say this is one ranks high.

Check out the comments on the site from the other riders....... you will not hear too many bad things about the bike, probably the biggest problem you will find is if your are short it's a long wy to the ground.

Also, there are a lot of after market things to add on..... check out some of the gadgets.
