Hey all,

I'm gearing up for an around the country trip this summer (unfortunately it's gonna be mostly asphalt) and looking at getting new jacket and pants for it. I was wondering what all of you would recommend for me to get. I have a flexible budget, but would rather spend less than $600 for both the pants and jacket.

Thanks guys!

Tour Master Transistion 2 and Caliber pants.Jacket has good venting, lots of pockets. Both jacket and pants come with zip out winter liners.Has kept me dry in any rains I've encountered so far.

Combo should be just a bit over $300

Im a big fan of my firstgear kilimanjaro jacket. It has good ventilation. The outer shell is waterproof so no need to carry extra stuff with you. I got the silver so it does not get too hot even in summer. I use it all year round. Also comes with a thermal liner that can be used in cold weather.

We have a discussion on the GLMC bulletin board on this topic.. One of the favorites is what Aaron mentioned, with the First Gear stuff..

MotorcycleGear.com (forumerly New Enough) has a deal on these.. http://www.motorcyclegear.com/street/jackets_and_vests/textile_jackets/first_gear/firstgear_kilimanjaro_5_textile_motorcycle_jacket.html

While I'm an Aerostich guy, I never ignore suggestions from LD riders.. And your $600 limit is a touch under what a new Darien Jacket/Pants would run at $750.. I've bought mine used on eBay for $300 for the set, but timing is needed for deals like that..

Check out http://www.network54.com/Forum/152868/ and look for the start of the topic that starts out with Grasshopper..

What Aron31 said. I use draggin jeans and have "field tested" them ....with knee and hip pads. BTW I have used "Scotch guard" and similar products to waterproof ridig, fishing, hunting, skiing clothes with quite good results;in most cases.

I've field tested the Caliber pants at about 60 mph - zero. I still wear them post wreck if that says anything about their quality.
As for jackets, I'm afraid I'm of little help. I use a Tourmaster Intake, but I'm in Phoenix. Also a good jacket though and has been crash tested by me.
