Decided to change the oil in one of the bikes today and figured may as well do the oil screen check while I was at it. Glad I did as you will see from the pix.

Bike is a 2004 with 11,000 km. on it.

Drain oil and water and get it all stripped down and remove the case. What the heck - where's the oil screen??

There it is, stuck to the back of the case. Oh my!

Let's have a close up. That's just gross.

All cleaned up. Look at the crap that was in there!!

Any idea what those black pieces are and is this common? They are hard and brittle.

In all the excitement of screen cleaning I just realized I forgot to adjust the Doohickey.

That seems pretty typical for the '04 and older. I've not seen a mess like that come out of the '05 and newer for some reason? My '05 had nothing on the screen when I cleaned it.

There isn't much in the motor that could donate the black stuff aside from the chain sliders. Sliders are used for the cam and balancer chains. Sigh of relief to get that junk outta there I bet.

I'll be doing my other '04 on Monday. It has fewer miles so it will be interesting to see what comes out of there.

a question. Is this something that has to be done regularly or now that I got the kawasaki build stuff out of there will the screen stay clean (cleaner)??

It looks like that shit that cloggs your arteries and then finally breaks loose to ruin your day. If that made it back around your engine no telling the tissue death you could suffer!

It's a one time deal. The center cases get sealed with sealant rather than gaskets and when it's done right(no leaking oil) some sealant get's squeezed out when you put the case halves together..half the stuff goes to the outside and half goes to the inside.
