Yup. Wind/bug defection is what mine do best. That's all I expect out of them. I didn't buy mine to go trail busting Lewis and Clark style.
Agreed. They are just so flimsy and need some better bracing inside.Yup. Wind/bug defection is what mine do best. That's all I expect out of them. I didn't buy mine to go trail busting Lewis and Clark style.
I've used a short dock demon on some big fishThe one I have will likely fail if I ever hook a fish with it. But I am going to give it a try
I used 25 dollar Amazon guards and notched the weightI can't find ones I like or want in Australia. Want to keep the big vibration dampening in the handlebars. So the new ones need to be clip on style. Ideally using the existing mounts or a metal frame with plastic guard over top. Amount of times birds have hit the guards while cruising and nearly broke the guards.
Not a fan of how the end is attached to the handlebar and splits the grip and weight.I used 25 dollar Amazon guards and notched the weight

Attached with the same bolt the factory used. Plenty strong. The only thing I didn't care for is the 1/8 inch it makes the weight stick out past the throttle side. More room for trash to get in and cause a gritty feel. And ugly. But it's not exactly a pretty bike anyway. It works and my levers won't break. what if you were able to notch out the same geometry as the aluminum hand guard from the weight? Do you think if someone had a mill they could copy the geometry and notch out a space for the aluminum to fit into the weight? That would also stop the weight from being able to turn itself loose.
It is notched. The weight nearly sits flush with the handguard. Can't go any deeper with the notch because the actual steel/ rubber insert starts where I stopped milling.what if you were able to notch out the same geometry as the aluminum hand guard from the weight? I like the outside mount. Very nice. But that inner mount looks just as bad as my ugly outside IMO. Lol.
I see. Well for me the search for the perfect KLR hand guard continues. I really like the wind deflection properties of the stock ones. Big cumbersome and clumsy. In this case thats a good thing. Unfortunately there is no guard value to them. I guess a guard designed to mount to the outside of the weight is what I need to conjure up
The versys 650 foot pegs fit on the KLR so it is very possible the hand guards do as well.I have heard talk of the VERSYS hand guards working with KLR. However I have not substantiated that personally. I should start checking into that
Beak ? I see a fender. Wanna see an ugly beak ? VStrom. Really want to like a Strom, especially with the 800 in the line up. But that God awful front end. It's like a big zit, can't stop looking at it.
Lol. I don't find the strom very appealing looking either. Not better or worse than my klr. Just an equal but different ugly. Lol.Beak ? I see a fender. Wanna see an ugly beak ? VStrom.
