Good to hear.
I think maybe you got your "on the center stand & on the wheels" reversed when typing, but we understand.

Too many miles without corners will square off any brand or model of motorcycle tire on any bike!

I purposely make curvy roads out of straight roads when there is no other traffic around. I practice my evasive maneuvers, quick tire track changes, quick lane changes and even high speed cornering all on straight roads & highways. I've even used the full 5 lanes on hilly areas to make graceful high speed arcs, nearly touching my boot toes to the tarmac.
I practice in all weather, calm, wind or rain. Smooth roads & rougher roads, asphalt, gravel & dirt. Occasionally practice your emergency braking also, even in turns.

It will make you a better rider, reduce the monotony and keep your tires rounder.
What can I say, I live near the middle of 98,000 sq miles of the least populated, 10th largest state in the USA.
Ride safe.

If there is any advice I could offer, it's ride until you're tired or you see somewhere you like and stop there. Camp, stay, nap, or rest, but look around and rest up.

Hey. well I kinda did like you said, stopped when I felt tired and discovered nice places so far. I unfortunately couldn't go to places that I wanted because of cyclone. On next holiday will visit them

Hi. I meant that (I apologies for my language as this is my second language) when the bike is on centre stand, it doesn't show full but it shows half/less than full. BUT when it is on the wheels, I can see the glass full (nearly full) of oil. I drained all oil filter etc, and put exactly 2.1 Lt oil in it as owner's manual instructed. Hope explained well this time. Sorry again

Just be certain to Never operate your engine with the oil level Below the bottom mark alongside the window. As viewed with bike on wheels, level ground & balanced left to right.
Closer to the top mark or slightly over is even better.
Un-like an automobile engine the KLR oil filter will drain back into the crankcase overnight, which may cause one to think the level is too high, which it technically is not. It just needs the oil filter cavity re-filled, again.

For the 1st 28 years of production of this engine the casting near the oil window read 2.5L, so did the service manuals & the owners hand books. They have only recently removed the casting from the engine cover & changed the printed quantity. Someone may supply a pic?

We don't understand why they lowered the printed quantity after so many years of continuous production.

Yep, we know.

Keep the window full or near full. And don't panic if you get it a bit over-full by the new standard.
Better a bit too much than too little.

I always check the oil level before the first start of the day and then at each rest stop / fuel stop. Take only a few seconds, cause we don't have to raise an engine hood or wipe a dip stick. :)

If your ride is going to be 70/30 tar/dirt I would change out to stock Dunlop trail max rubber great grip very quite hyway tire and aggressive enough for most dirt fail in sand but super quite and I got 7500 klms out of a set and could of got another 2000 if I pushed it

hi all,
I know it is quite late but I just had time and mood to upload this here.
first of all, thank you guys for sharing experiences with me on this. Chucky (MY14) made about 10.000 kms in OZ on this trip and I found most needed things. Such as, headlights not good enough, windscreen too short, seat killed me as I was doing more than 1k somedays and list goes on. But I liked it. 2001 or 2002 KLR650 was the first bike I learnt riding manual bike. after all years going back to single cylinder was massive change to me. Anyways, I am not a guy who likes to take photo but here you are. I stayed mostly in national parks where I was completely alone due to Cyclone especially in Qld. I stayed at motels 3 times only.

Thank you for suggestion. I finished first rear tyre (I guess it was stock) somewhere in Mt Isa and changed it. I didn't have option so I got something 60/40 and kept going.
My next trip will be Sydney to Perth via the road near Uluru I think, where you need permission for 3000 kms.
