I would not sell my 1987 for $1500, with near zero extras. What do you think?

That’s a very good price. I wouldn’t necessarily hesitate at that mileage either.
If the owner took good care of it, buy er and run er!

I haven't any opinion on the price and purchase I'm sorry. However, I have to laugh everytime I see cruising pegs on any motorcycle let alone a KLR. They were on my '83 Virago and I think I had a wrench on them before I could get it in the garage the evening I brought it home. Everytime I see some guy on a Harley laid back with his legs spread apart reminds me of some sort of gynaecologist examination table with the stirrups and all.

Did you read the link? And maybe even print it to take with you?
The more informed that you are, the more informative the seller will need to be.
Look at the oil drain plug. Look at the underside of the forward half of the filter box. Ask to look at the air filter itself.

If you are gonna' ride rocky roads it appears to still need an aluminum skid plate.

From the middle of WY in the single pic it appears to be well cared for.

If everything does check out, I would be inclined to offer him 3k.
It does appear that the kickstand plate was re-welded at some point.

It does appear to my eyes that the aftermarket seat has been 'further customized'.
And it doesn't look to me like they did a good job of it. Good negotiating tool.
