2. Similarly, what recent year model included the latest updates on meaningful items like rear suspension capacity, or any other substantive feature or spec level? In other words, what's the earliest model year I should consider in the new used category in order to get the latest updates (decals do not qualify for me)?
As Paul said, 2014.5 and up are identical (except for the BNG's, of course!), BUT the 2014.5 changes are fairly insignificant IMO and personally, I'd consider a low mileage earlier bike to save some $$$ and then spend the difference on real suspension upgrades which work 10X better than the "upgraded" 2014.5 budget stuff. If you decide to consider this route, I'd personally stick with 2010 and up bikes to avoid the early Gen2 issues. ...something to consider.
