I was just pondering this and thought I'd put it to people with more knowledge.

Anyone know the max allowable chain stretch for the counter balance chain?

The aftermarket dohickey upgrades provides us with more adjustment and, therefore, accommodates more stretch.

But is this a good thing? Our drive chains have a max allowable amount of stretch. Heck, even my Mercedes 240D has an upper limit before you're rolling in a new timing chain.

On a related note, how many miles does one get before all of the adjustment range is used and the chain must be replaced?

New 20 link/21 pin length is 190.5mm
Replace at 193.4 mm
On my 2008 KLR at 97,000 miles length =191mm
It seems to be the rubber shoulders on the sprockets that wears down or gets compressed causing chain slack.
