Well I thought I'd post this here since the other site took a crap on all of us. I'm riding out to Moab, Utah the last week in may for a 2 week play time in the desert out there for the canyonlands classic. Would love to have a few more KLR's join me on the trip out and or meet up out there for a great time at arrowhead's I'm iron butting it out for the first 1000 miles, so I can meet anyone along the way. Of course I'm not a brand snob, if you have a different dualsport, join in on the fun ! pm me if your interested. I like to plan in advance, due to camping arrangements and stuff.

Hey, Gunny. I was hoping to make Moab next spring, too. I can't plan that far in advance (despite wanting to), so I have to be flexible. Keep me in mind if you pass through Colorado. Let me know if you need a garage, a wrench, a place to sack out, etc.

Very cool, I'll be passing through Denver on my way over the big hill. I'll keep you posted. I was going to stop in ogalala Nebraska, but want to get the iron butt 1000 out of the way that trip, so I just may skip the stop, and stop in denver instead.

Cool. I'm south of Denver, actually south-west of Castle Rock.

Check with me here or at the other site if you plan on being in the area.

I'm still gonna try to meet you up there.
It's only about 450 miles for me but I would truck it as the highway scares me.
Keep us posted.

This sounds like something to keep in mind. Every time I "plan" something something happens and the plans have to change, so I'll just hope you all keep this thread going up until the last of may.

You could alway map out the back roads to get there. I know AZ has some great sites to see.

I looked at the maps & found that I could at least get to the Utah border just riding the dirt, mostly through the painted desert. It would be a good ride that I would like to try someday.

I can understand not wanting to ride the highway, it can be very intimidating at times. I'll be riding 1950 miles of slab to get out there, I figure I'll do the first 1000 within the first 24 hours of the trip, my original plan was three 650 mile days. But I want to do an iron butt ride, I figure a nice 16 hour day should do it. But ... that depends on how I feel, crazy not stupid. I plan on staying at one of the camp sites, either at canyonlands camp ground, or another I can't recall the name of right now, but they have a good program for active duty military, as in they can stay there for free as long as we have troops in Iraq and afghanistan. So I figure I'll throw them my biz, so it can help offset their costs for being generous to the troops. Sadly, that means living in a tent for a week with no A/C, but thats part of the trip. Plan on riding out to a couple of the ghost towns and taking lots of pictures, as well as just riding with fred and they guys. I hope we can get a good showing from the forum out there, it would be cool to get 5 or 6 guys out there, from all over the country. I'm hoping johnnywonderbread can make the trip out with me, would make the trip a lot shorter riding out with someone else. I have had others from ADV and .net interested in meeting up along the way, so this should be an interesting trip.

um... If you were asking me, I'm in Larkspur, south west of Castle Rock. Parker is to the east.

Rockyard has good brews. Lots of local brewpubs in Colorado. More than any other state (or so the local legend has it).

I'm in for Moab. Doubtfully I am able to make the trip on dirt roads only. Ever heard of the Donner Party.
