Ok, I am 2/3 the way to Norfolk. My rear end hurts, that is with Sargent seat, stearns pad, and sweet cheeks bolster system. My knees also hurt. I see no way around it. I am going to have to get something better in a seat. Is there anyone with Russell Daylong quality any cheaper? $500 on a seat may hurt my rear as badly as the current seating. I find it pathetic that I spent $300 on a Sargent only for it not to be much better than stock.

I still use my stock seat with a gel pad on. The pad I bought was 20 bucks on sale at a store called Canadian Tire and is meant for a car seat, But most automotive type stores have em. It has a grippy side that sticks real nice to the seat and a small strap that wraps around the front of the seat. It's like sittin on a loaf of bread. LOL. I have sat on a few of the more expensive seats and just seamed to be more satisfied with the gel pad I add to mine. And it's cheap! Maybe you can just find a cheap gel pad to add to your seat just to get through the trip

Never sat on a loaf of bread, but might look into this pad myself.

That is going to be my next purchase...Corbin lowered seat... But I am kinda short legged, (inseem 30") but, I have noticed that rider position on the newer KLRs tends to be trivial. If I ride close to the tank my cheeks and my feet seem to ache after 50 miles or so, But thankfully the previous owner bought some type of beeds that wrap the tail end of the seat, And to quote him.."Its not the greatest, but it helps" , seems to sum up my oppinion. But try changing your ergonomics in you riding style it may cure it or atleast give you options for different parts of your can to ache.

Well I made it. Basically a 265 mile ride - 6.5 hours with a food stop and rest stops. Last stop, I cured some of my discomfort by re-strapping the sweet cheeks a different way. That made my legs and boys happy, but the donkey wasn't any happier.

The gel pad idea would be enticing if I had not tried most of the band aid measures. I may still try it. I think the best answer is going to be a daylong style seat.

There is a guy on eBay doing something similar to a daylong. If any of you have any of this guys stuff, let me know. If any of you are interested in the Sargent for $200 plus shipping, let me know. That will ease some of the wallet pain on the daylong. I will have to send my new stock seat off and have it done before selling the Sargent.

Is that the sargent low or standard? I may be interested.... I need something else too...I was thinking Sargent for everyday stuff and maybe some beads or a propad gel pad for the long trips....

On my 03 I took a seat off of an old KLR, a new stock cover from ebay and went to cutting and shaping, I happened across a brand new cruiser type seat at the local goodwill and just cut a notch in the stock foam and glued this in place and stretched the cover over it.

I removed the cover several times adding a wedge here and trimming a chunk there, really no magic to it and it looks like a frankenstien seat until I staple the cover back on and then it looks like all the others.

It's certainly the way I would recommend anyone who's struggling try first, my bike came with an Afrika Solo which was plenty comfortable but designed for shorter inseam's than mine.

You might also try the bead seat option, it really changes the feel of things and increases coolness airflow tremendously, $14 at autizone, cut a few sections off and about 3 feet of strech cord to hold it in place.

I'm not a big miles guy but I ride 600 mile days often, and an 800 about two months ago and was comfortable, I wear and really like the Troy Lee underwear/armor.

I'm running up on 60 real soon and without going into old stories of other ventures I'll just say I learned long ago that a little vitamin I "Ibuprofen" can be a positive addition and I recommend taking it before the soreness starts and be sure to stay hydrated[

Worked for me using the stock 2x6.
My rear was in no way wet or damp, point pressure on my rear was the culprit. Now, once the pressure is addressed, the skin may be of value. As it is, my rear doesn't stay still on the bike long enough to get to the point that the skin is needed. 50-80 miles is all I can do befor I have to stop, get off, and walk around.

I have the Corbin dished seat. Very comfy for rides of up to 4 hours (farthest I've gone since I got it). I think I may spring for one of those gel things, though. Not much worse on a long ride than a bum bum.

TPI seat

Well, the original stock seat wasn't doing it.

I started with the Wal-Mart solution.
Nah.

Then the AirHawk solution.
better but not that much. Nah.

So last fall, I sucked it up and coughed up the bucks for a TPI leather seat.

This month 2222 miles in ten days with no butt complaints.

Sure it was only two hundred miles a day with 100 miles breaks

but no whinning, actually I didn't even think about it.

The TPI is wider in the right place. (6' - 200 lbs)

This is one topic that is very user specific so yo just gotta take a shot.

The other saddle on my short list was a Renazco.

But like I said its very personal about how and where you sit.

Since yesterdays post I put 535 comfortable miles on it riding to Lake Chelan, camping and coming home through the north cascades. I hope you get it sorted out. Denny

Thanks Denny. It is a good suggestion, but I have tried this already as well.

I just put my old pad on from the NX250 I sold last year.
Haven't tried it on road yet, maybe after dinner.
Just sitting on it feels real comfee!

It sure makes getting on a challange. A bit higher than stock seat. I may just use it for those longer runs.
