Hi everyone, i'm new to the motorcycle world. I'm planning a trip from San Diego to Chile next summer. I'll be buying a KLR 650 these next few weeks .
Whats the difference between the 16, 17, 18 KLR 650 models?

I found a dealer selling a New 2016 Klr 650 for $4,999 and a 2018 for 6,999.

Whats the best buy?

If you plan to keep the bike for as long as a trip to Chile requires, the 2016, to the best of my knowledge and belief! :)

EXCEPTION: If you can't stand the 2016 graphics, in comparison with the 2018's (the only difference in the models, AFAIK).

I don't mind the graphics. Mainly performance. Seems to be the same bike though. Thanks.

Other than $2000 and colour there's no difference. Easy choice.

...as I said "elsewhere", zero difference except color. Buy the 2016, take the $2000 and buy decent suspension, a skid plate, footpegs, bars and handguards and you'll have a much better bike than the 2018

I made the same deal for a 2011 when the 2013s first came out. Saved $2,000. Still running well with over 50,000 mils on it.

Go for the deal and save the $2,000.

I agree with everyone here. Go for the 2016.
I had a similar situation (twice actually) when I bought my DRZ a few years ago. It was a 2007 with almost no miles for $4000 OR a 2011 for $6000 or however much they are new.
No brainer, go for the older one and use the extra cash to upgrade it.
