Hello, I purchased a new 08 last week so I'm just getting the break in miles on it. I've been riding some sort of two wheeler for about 30 years but mostly street bikes for the last 7 years. I've been lusting over the KLR for over a year and decided to dive on in. I ride a ST1300 on the long trips, but hope to test the KLR on some medium distance trips. I live near Concord, N.C. very close to the Lowes Motor Speedway. My favorite rides are over to the Dragons Tail, north Georgia, and east Tenn. I'm looking forward to getting in the dirt again.

Welcome aboard Lee. You've got some great riding in that area. The weekend of May 16th, there will be a bunch of KLR's at Tellico, TN for the weekend to enjoy some rides both trails and roads. Also you might check out National Geographics Trail Maps for Tenn. and N. Carolina.
Here are the links for them:
N. Carolina

Tenn.

They list all of the Forest Service roads and gates.

Thanks for the info. I know the main roads in the area pretty well from road trips but I know very little of the dual sport roads.
