Did Australia actually call the first Gen 2 model, KL650E8F a 2007 model year bike? Selling alongside the Gen 1 KL650A7F 2007 model?

In the USA the Gen 2 KL650E series bikes sold from February 2007 onward was simply an 'Early Release 2008' model.

Gday PD,

I honestly have no idea but according to origional paperwork here, it was purchased in July 2007 and registered as a 2007 KL650AEA4.

It had me buggered to begin with as I bought it as an 07, purchased new carb stuff and seals etc for an 07, but everytime I googled an 07 model for reference (that's how badly new to them I am) it looked nothing like mine. Mine looked like the 2008. From then on Parts wise etc Ive just treated it as an 08 gen 2 and have decided it was a "demo" model of the new version or as you said, an early release model.

Thanks mate, had to look twice as yours seemed exactly the same👍👍. You enjoying the riding this year?

I'm hoping for lots of dirt and fun this Summer. I only bought them a few months ago (switched from a yamaha vstar 650 cruiser) but we've been heavily locked down in our houses here in Melbourne since March. At the moment, we're not allowed to travel more than 5kms radius from home😫

WOW! Some people can't even make it to a grocery store with a 5km limit! I'll guess that they get an extended radius?

Yeap, I'm pretty sure the cops don't worry if its for "essentials" like food, health appointments, work (essential workers only!?) and "care giving".

There's also a curfew 9pm to 5am stay inside. But this is just Metro Melbourne. All the other states are way more relaxed. Having said that, Western Australia and Queensland have closed their borders to other states.

Talk around the news and websites is that Melbourne's "Draconian" lockdown is the harshest in the world, even worse than Wuhan. I can't keep up with all the new laws and powers, so many grey areas, just waiting for it to end. In Melbourne, the "plan" that the state govt has is that we will free to live "normally" by October 28th. They have no real plan!

Pretty please???
It's great to have you introduce yourself, but we also would like to know where you're from, too!!

If you're shy, you don't even need to post your town, but at least what part of the country you're from.. That way people in your area can get to know you, or even better, meet you!!!

paul from san jose, california. refugee from another site, which lately generates a "forbidden" error when i try to visit from certain computers...

had my klr for several years and have installed many farkles, purchased even more... it fulfills the "medium" role in my motorcycling fleet. currently doing freeway commute duty while my blackbird shock gets rebuilt.

thanks for providing yet another great vehicle centric on-line community!

Joined in 2012, decided it was about time to check this site out! I’m from Heber Springs AR. Been behind bars over 40 yrs, street bikes and enduros. I’m on my 6th KLR, all gen2. Like others, I migrated from the .net site. Love the opinions, banter, and technical information this site offers.

Welcome aboard. I’ve only been here less than 5 months, but I can vouch that you’ve joined one of the best vehicle forums on the net. The guys here know more about these bikes than the engineers who designed them. Some of them have been riding KLRs more than 20 years. First search through the threads to find answers to your questions, but if you can’t find what you’re looking for (the search function doesn’t always hit on the right keywords), then post your questions. So don’t be shy.

Hey Fellas,
Tuning in from way down South Texas. Like on the southern tip, south. Been lurking around a while, and finally scored a, new-to-me, KawaDonkey 650. 2003 model to be exact. Got a killer deal on but got give her some love before she's road and dirt ready.

Thanks for having me. Already found a butt load of info here.

What's up guys I'm Matt from South Carolina. I'm not new here and I am not new to KLR's. I've basically grown up with this bike, My father bought it from the dealership brand new in 2000. We were always working on it. Now 20 years later there's almost nothing stock left of it.

This first picture was taken in 2006. Almost stock except some minor mods.

Oh really? It has still got the whimpy little oem front disc brake rotor on it.

An EBC 320mm disc and sintered pads will make it STOP. Rather than just Slow Down.
