Howdy from Houston, Texas. Recently purchased a used 2012 KLR with less than 1500 miles.

Looking forward to learning from members and contributing as well.

I intend to ride dirt roads around Sam Houston National Forest as well as the Natchez Road. View attachment 40738 View attachment 40738

Just finished reading the post. Lots of great pro-tips especially on proper oil levels.

Hi, all. Thanks for allowing me to join. This appears to be a solid forum.
Springtime is when a person's thoughts often turn to new motorcycles.
Following my pals, I have joined the adv ranks and this week brought home a 2023 KLR650 Adventure.
Based near Portland, Ore., my whole life, I've enjoyed many facets of the motorcycling experience for many years (street, single track woods, dual sport, MX, flat track, etc.). A couple of decades ago I would have scoffed at the idea of a 400+ lb. off-road machine, but it makes sense to me now. I'm looking forward to putting some miles on my new machine, gleaning helpful info from this site, and being part of the community and the conversation.

Hi. I'm Andy from Yorkshire, UK. Been riding motorbikes since I was illegal, reverse inherited a very mild 125 trailie a few years ago and find I'm having gentle fun on non tarmac roads. I especially like going out up on the hills. The 125 is a bit hard work getting anywhere though, and as I say it's only very mildly off-road capable.

I've found a 2004 KLR 250 for sale locally with just 4000 miles on and wondering how many of you lot use these off the tarmac.

Friends tell me the steering is heavy, I wonder if that's really a problem. I'm 220lb myself!

Thoughts/comments welcome it's not going to be a daily ride, just a fun day out.

Stiffen the preload on the rear shock to decrease the angle of the fork to lighten & quicken the steering.
The 250 was intended for 130-160 pound riders.

Higher quality/stiffer sprung rear shock & matching fork springs would be even better for a man your size.

blaustrom here WNY area.

Have a V2 (2014) and a 2007 KLR. Been on stromtrooper for a while but thought this forum may be useful for KLR related issues and info. Its my beater for the PA woods and BDR riding, the V2 is the long distance touring bike. Both have over 60k but the KLR is a recent purchase which had over 50k on the clock when I bought it 2 years ago.
Mine is the blue one, en route to MABDR southern start point.

Hi all, I'm Eric and new to the forum and new to KLR. My latest ride is a 2022 KLR650 Adventure and she's destined for our house at Shelter Cove, CA. (Don't tell my R1250GSA...she gets very jealous if she knows I'm riding elsewhere without her) My 2nd bike as a kid was a KX80 so I'm glad to be back on green. Have had a Versys 650 and 1000 as well and really liked both for their simplicity and stability. The KLR is meant for light trail riding and unraveling asphalt. The BMW is housed in Roseville, CA, just next to Sacramento and that's where I am 3/4 of the time. I really appreciate the tone and helpfulness of forums like this and want to thank all of you that are going to provide me some great tips and suggestions. Clearly, a very experienced crowd and given where I'm going to garage the KLR, I'm going to need help on doing all the maintenance myself since there are no close dealers. I don't mind wrenching some and have done quite a bit of my BMWs' maintenance but I chicken out on the majors and let the dealer handle those! I'll close up my intro with a reminder that it's Spring how exciting is that?!!

Welcome to the group!
Maintenance is easy on a KLR. I do it all myself, as I DON’T trust any stealership to work on any of my toys 😂

Give me a holler if you need assistance.
I’m just south of you 👍
